perfect fight
Roy has takin the perfect steps so far in rebulding his career. He took on a nobody in prince badi whatever. Just to get his feet wet and start to shake out the cobwebs after three striat l's on his record. Two of them by nasty knock out to antonio tarver and the always humble glen johnson. Then looking guny shy against tarver in there third fight and even being caught with a huge shot that hurt him for his lack of agrresion more then anything. this lost him the fight. but against prince badi he he was Taking it slow. Roy won every round and looked a little bit more like what we where used to. instead of the guy who got mauld by glen johnson.
With the first tune up fight out of the way. He decided to fight a top prospect in anthony Hanshaw. A unbeatin fighter who's only blemish was a draw on his record in a fringe tittle fight. The draw to Jean paul mendy was thought to highway robbey by most. Who thought Hanshaw had clearly won the fight. This was a real test for jones and some thought he may loose this fight. Relagated to a small time PPV show as he was in his prior fight Jones didn't look quite the same. The first nine rounds of the fight is was razor thin and roy had seemed to have lost what made hime great. Then in round ten hanshaw begain to steal the show. He came on strong in the last fourty five seconds and was gaining steam. He started the eleventh round charging in and with old roy hand speed roy landed an upercut and glassed hanshaw. He got up but for the rest of the round and fight roy had his way and was the clear winner. The nice unamous decision win made it clear roy was still a threat.
Then came the first mega fight he would get since the last loss to tarver.
A fight with the once welterweight felix trindad. though it would a huge fight against a skilled man roy had to much size and speed for trindad most said going in.but felix was a huge puncher even at middleweight knocking out william joppy and roy was thought to have no chin. every body thought he would have to load up and catch roy with one big shot. since he had been off for three years and couldn't possibly keep up with a man who once held a heavyweight belt and had faster hands then most featherweights. But trindad gave his best for the first five rounds. Winning four of them on my card. Out boxing roy. who was once again tentatave early in the fight. Although having predictated a fourth round knock out roy did win that round big. Clearly winning the the sixth round roy would drop tito in round seven. He would win every round from there on. Dropping tito again and winning a wide decision.Roy had shown why he was a big favorite and showd that weight was no longer a problem making 170 pounds for the fight.
So now we know that roy still has something left and it's time to pick a next fight. There have been three talked about. A fourth fight with Antonio Tarver. His acrh rival. A fight with three time super middleweight champ Marcus Beyer or a fight with top young prospect Tarvios cloud. A fighter with only eightteen fights. But seventeen knock outs. If roy was to really have no chin. This would be a dumb choice of fights being as it would produce the least pay. But as we lead up to the day roy makes his choice cloud may be the frontrunner.
What ever roy does he's still a hall famer. But in my humble opinion if a where roy and i really found what i lost. i'd take four moe fight atleast. Maybee even seven to ten. I would beat cloud and shoe eveybody I have chin. Whip beyer and send him back to germany. Let glen johnson have the knid of rematch against me montel griffin did and then even the score with Tarver.
Then think about haning it up and say if Hopkins can be a champ at 43 got togo further then him. I would whip tarver in out fifth fight. Beat johnson and griffin( who would be a stumble bum by now} in trilgoy fights. I would think about reitring again. say no than go up to cruserweight clear out that division.(which would be the fifth division in which i had done so) and then call it a day.
This is all based on the fact that roy claims are true and moving up to heavyweight to win a belt and the losing the fourty pounds so quickly was why he lost those fights and he has now regained his form. returning to the fighter who was the best i have every seen live with my own two eyes.
But we all know nothing is certan. Not even the fact roy fights anybody i have listed but all you can do is wait and see.Comment
