I think its a very interesting point, he used to hype Margarito up and Floyd never wanted it, I think, because Tony was just too damn big and PBF wanted to find his feet at 147. That being said no one forces Floyd to do anything, least of all Arum.

Cotto was always the bigger story, he had the perfect record which is invaluable in marketing a fighter, the weight of PR behind him, but Margarito losing to Williams - and though it was a competitive fight he did lose quite clearly - took the shine off him for big Bob.

This is gonna be one heck of a fight though. It's gonna be interesting to see if Miguel can take Tony's punches

I don't think it even matters really.

Floyd promised him a fight if he did his part of the deal..............which he's doing right now. If he does in fact beat Cotto then I'm 100% sure he'd want Quintana after that: and Floyd will offer him a payday.

I know he's a man of his word anyways.

So if paydays are the bottom line then it's just clear now.

Honestly man that could have factored into the equation, I mean when they were face to face Floyd seemed a bit intimidated. Well big time.

But I think it's moreso that Floyd wanted the payday from the Oscar fight to set up his name in boxing. I mean he still was.......in reality..........a semi nobody to the mainstream public who just now swallowed his balls.

Arum just wants Clottey to get the title without fighting Margarito. He doesn't care about what's best for Tony...

Margarito should fight Clottey, and then try for a unification fight with the winner of Williams vs. Quintana.

Margarito will end up making well over a million dollars, and that ain't nothing. Other than an unlikely fight with Floyd or DLH, this is clearly the best opportunity in Tony's career. Even if he loses, he'll still be a tough fight for any welterweight and would have a decent chance to pick up another title.

anytime bro. I remember when all this was going down and talking to Diaz about how they wanted Tony to do the deal for the Cotto fight (which wasnt that much more in terms of money BTW) but they wanted Tony long term and they had always felt slighted by Arum because they see other guys get propelled into star status while Tony was fighting on undercards and whatnot. I also remember talking to him when he was on his way to PR to meet Varcarcel about facing his mando and they were worried that Bob would do somethng to mess things up but Bob really didnt have a case of trying to prevent a champion from facing his mando. Once he realized that Tony was indeed going to fave Williams he did absolutley nothing to promote the fight in fact all the press was run through Goossen Tutor and not Top Rank. Arum, Debeouf, the PR team didnt even bother showing himself until the day of the fight.

yeah they treated Tony like **** on a shoe for the longest and to be honest if he were not in the same division as Cotto, giving Arum an option for a PPV fight instead of hounding Floyd, then I doubt he would be given anything

                Yeah finally, lol I mean.

In a sport where the people who truly deserve big money don't get it........it's good to see one of them get that. For sure.

Oh no doubt. If the PPV sells well I'm guessing he could make two or even three million. I was just giving a conservative number because this is so clearly the best option for Margarito's career right now. Giving up an alphabet title to get it shouldn't even be a factor.

Can you imagine how big this fight would be if Marg never lost to Williams?
