Does Bob Arum give a **** about Tony?

No seriously, do you guys think that at this point in his career does Bob really cares about Margarito at all? it seems to me that Cotto is Arum's darling, and he obviously wants to match Cotto against Mayweather, he's doing all the dissing towards Mayweather in Cotto's behalf. We all know a few years ago he did wanted Margarito to face Mayweather and the whole $8 Million fiasco, he was very vocal about it and started the whole "Most feared man on the planet" slogan for Tony, but back then Cotto was not in the position he is right now, he was still an up-n'-commer. So is Bob using Margarito to keep elevating Cotto's stock higher than what it is now? does he really think Cotto is just going to walk through Tony and then force Mayweather to fight Cotto? He barely mentioned Margarito in that last press conference after the fight, has Arum lost confidence in Margarito or what? If he thinks this is going to be a walk in the park for Cotto he is delusional, I'm sure he knows the dangers of Cotto losing to Tony. If Cotto were to lose this fight then Floyd would probably use the loss as an excuse not to fight Cotto, and we know Floyd won't take a fight against Tony regardless of the outcome.

So I don't know guys, what do you think about all of this?

I think as a Margarito fan your biting the hand that has fed your favorite.

Margarito couldnt draw for most of his career and barely anyone cared about him, and Arum still stuck with him. Did you forget that he offered Tony a fight with Cotto and Tony turned it down cuz he thot Williams would be a walk in the park??

Bottem line is that Cotto is his darling but he obviously is still thinking about Tony and you and all Tony fans should be happy Tony's back in contention where as any other promotor wouldnt have known what to do with him

I think Bob wants to keep it in the family (Top Rank) Cotto VS Margarito and the Winner fights Clottey, At the end of the day Arum wins.

Arum wants Cotto to win, but if tony wins the bout Arum will probably allow him to go belt collecting. The main goal for Arum is to have a capable fighter with 3 belts that would force Floyd into a big money fight.

I agree with your post 100%. Any other promoter would've put Margarito on the shelf after his loss to Williams. Margo and his fans should be gratefull that Arum is giving him such an opportunity to face off with Cotto. At this point, Cotto has more to lose than Margarito.

My original post was not meant as a rant, maybe the title sounded a bit like it, if so that is not what I mean. What I'm trying to figure out is if Arum is actually killing two birds with one shot by putting up this fight. You got Cotto sitting on top of the world right now waiting for that shot against Mayweather (even though he pretends like he doesn't really care about it) and Tony who is eager to be finally recognized among the top Welters even though in my eyes he has been all of this years, unfortunately nobody wanted a piece of him in the past to give him that shot. So now Arum can give Margarito what he wanted, a "second chance" to fight Cotto and prove he is worth it. But ultimately I think Arum's intentions are just to make this fight happen hoping Cotto can win so that he can finally challenge Mayweather, using Tony as a stepping stone to increase Cotto's stock. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, i know the fight makes perfect sense for both men, but I just think Arum wants and hopes Cotto to win this fight instead of Margarito, for his own sake and pockets.

I think Bob wants what's best for Bob. Right now, a Cotto-Margarito match is the best option Arum has for making money. It's a win-win situation for him because he knows the PR-Mexico rivalry will bring in the $, and the fight is bound to be entertaining, meaning a rematch would make just as much, if not more money than the first.

Also, Cotto has a $2.5M guarantee in his contract and I don't think there are many more options out there for Cotto where Arum can pay him that much and still make a profit. So, matching him with Margarito gives the fans a great matchup and gives him a profitable fight, if not a profitable trillogy! And, best of all, the WBA belt stays with a Top Rank fighter.

I would assume that if Cotto wins he'll be matched up against Clottey next, assuming Clottey can win the vacant IBF title after Margo lets it go to fight Cotto.

O for sure he'd rather have Cotto win but I think he feels that this is the biggest match that can be made at Welterweight and he's BEEN trying to get Cotto and Tony to fight for years. I'm sure Arum knows a fight with Floyd aint happening but He def favors Cotto
