Beating Margarito From A Tactical Standpoint..

60 punches a round is about his average but he sometimes can throw upwards of 70 or 80 punches a round and with Gomez, his workrate was higher.

i agree with this statement.By boxing. He can't stand and trade with Margarito, he needs to use his jab and pick his spots to throw punches down the middle when Margarito is throwing his wide shots. He should only get inside to throw some of his body shots and then get back out before Margarito can get back at him.
the only thing i would like to add (and point out) is to pick up on what cintron and steward couldnt pick up on in the rematch last weekend.
Margarito comes in without a jab on several occasions.
Cotto should take a few steps back; allow margarito to come to him; tag him with a few shots and move back again...make margarito chase him and when he comes in (without a jab) tag him; get out; and make him keep coming to you.
cotto could really gain a lead on scorecards if he does this.Comment

I voted for both for footwork; a draw. Marg has underrated footwork and usually always has proper footing to be after his opponent and able to punch with power.Comment

Fight commentary was my first thought. You would have posted the source if it was online.
Why did they mention 1996 though? How old was he then, 16?Comment

It was Al Bernstein I think. It was after Clottey landed a body shot.
"Interestingly enough, Margarito has been down 5 times in his career. However, the one that really worries me was when he was dropped by a body shot in 1996."
Something like that. Al Bernstein is usually spot on with his facts, so I think its reliable.Comment
