I think that people get carried away with the Jones/ Ruiz fight. Ruiz didn't know how to fight tall or use his height to his advantage. Peak or any version of Tyson would be to much.
Roy was faster and more elusive than Spinks was, that's why I think he would survive longer.
Tyson was not a slow man himself though and would eventually catch up to Jones. It is simply a question of 'when'.

Spinks had almost all other advantages as a heavyweight over Roy, this was, after all, a man who had defeated Larry Holmes (6'4, 230 lbs) and Gerry Cooney (6'6, 240 lbs), both big heavyweights.

There would be nothing Roy could do to keep off Tyson and Tyson could cut off the ring real well.

Even John Ruiz, a man who had fought most of his career as the boxer against bigger heavyweights, cut off the ring early against Roy Jones and pushed him to the ropes.
Ruiz did not have great power or speed though and he has always been a boxer in his fights, not a puncher or a pressure fighter.

Ruiz fought Roy's fight, something Tyson definitely would not do.
Tyson against Spinks went right at his opponent, unafraid of anything Spinks could throw at him.

Roy Jones also went to the ropes voluntarily many times in his career which is a bad habit to have against a prime Mike Tyson.

I think P4P a fighter like Tyson would give Roy trouble, now just imagine the 30 lb weight advantage Tyson would have in this fight.

      Against Tyson in the mid-eighties?

      No contest.

      A ludicrous question.

yes roy is faster than tillis. yes roy is way better skilled than tillis. yes roy was about 5'10-5'11 and quick was only 6'1. but there are things a heavyweight 6'1 guy can do and take that a 5'11 super middleweight can't.
Im not even considering that Jones would win im just trying to point out is that Jones would do much better than Spinks done thats it.

no one can be 4x faster than anyone by the way. i'm slow as hell but an olympic record breaker wouldn't be able to beat me by more than a few seconds in a 100 meter dash.

and you are telling me that if tyson catches roy flush in the first few seconds he wouldn't go down? if spinks could've used his speed and boxed better he could've lasted longer as well. it just depends when mike catches you......and how well you can take it or recover from it.

Yeah and a lot of half ass fighters lasted longer than Spinks so it's not much of an accomplishment.

Roy wouldn't win. He could be ko'ed at any time be it the 1st or the 12th but most likely early if he got hit flush.

                i understand.

but to say it's not a possibility that mike can catch roy early is hard not to consider as well. even michael could've done better against mike. it's just he got caught early and that's part of the sport and that's why power is a great equalizer.

roy is fast enough to avoid tyson, no question bout that, but if tyson managed to land a solid punch roy would be seeing stars, could go wither way really
