not a good idea to match up a natural middleweight against a guy who was 200 lbs. and fighting heavyweights in the amateurs at 14.

with tyson's hand speed he has a chance to land at least one punch in every round. in the 2nd tarver fight we all saw how roy's chin reacts to a solid punch that lands flush. don't want to imagine how he'd look from a flush right hand or left hook from a prime tyson.

the guys that moved gave tyson problems but they also had 3-4 inches of height and longer reach against him. people forget that tyson had fast footwork and very fast hands for a heavyweight.

I don't see it going much different than Tyson vs Spinks did to be honest.

Perhaps it would last longer because of Roy's athletic capabilities. He could avoid Tyson for a while but not for long.

I definitely agree but i can't see the fight going as long as Tyson/Spinks did actually. Spinks is actually natural bigger than Jones with a longer reach. Tyson would overwhelme Jones the way he did with Spinks.

I think that people get carried away with the Jones/ Ruiz fight. Ruiz didn't know how to fight tall or use his height to his advantage. Peak or any version of Tyson would be to much.

Tillis was only 6'1 and he gave Tyson all kinds of trouble with his movement.

Yeah, Tyson was very fast for a heavyweight, but people forget how extremely fast Roy was, and what lightening reflexes he had, period. They bring up the Ruiz fight, but Roy was already on the decline at that point. A young Roy would be very difficult for Mike to hit, and to say he would get him out of there in 90 seconds is just not realistic.

and roy is only 5'10 and his body is physically much smaller and weaker than quick's.

Prime Tyson would KO Prime RJJ in the 1st round.

And Tillis was also considered to have a weak chin yet he still managed to avoid most of Tyson's bombs by just using his movement. Which Jones would do considering he is x4 faster than Tillis. Im not saying Jones would win but come on people are just being silly they actually believe Tyson would beat Jones quicker than Tyson beat Spinks ??

there's more to defense than speed and quickness.

if tyson gets inside him how does he get him off of him? it's very hard for roy to grab mike. does he have the strength to forearm or shoulder mike off of him? in amateur fight where the two just boxes he probably can give him a hard time but in a pro bout where forearms and shoulders and clinches come into play it's a different story. this thread is not a very good hypothetical one in my opinion. maybe the roy from 2003 and mike from 2003 at cruiserweight catchweight would be better.

some guys here are assuming roy's speed can keep tyson away and maybe roy can for a majority of the fight he is very skilled but NOT all the time and that brief minute or so won't be a good experience for him. floyd is much better skilled and much faster than hatton but hatton still found moments to get inside did he not?

even if roy blocks mike's punches......how would his arms react to the strength of mike's hooks and right hands?

Tyson would've knocked Jones out with the first power punch he landed.

and it was all movement from quick that did it right?

no clinching? no forearms or shoulders to push mike off? no taking shots on the arms? things a heavyweight tillis could do that a smaller , lighter , weaker guy like roy can't do as well as james.

yes roy is faster than tillis. yes roy is way better skilled than tillis. yes roy was about 5'10-5'11 and quick was only 6'1. but there are things a heavyweight 6'1 guy can do and take that a 5'11 super middleweight can't.
