I apologize, I misstated. It was 0.75 seconds.

I don't blame Richard Steele for his call. He had a fighter who couldn't respond for whatever reason. He did what he had to do.

Steele was going so fast he counted off 5 seconds in about 2 seconds of actual time. He was racing against the clock, that's how it looked.

Stopping the fight is done so in order to stave off further damage; to save a fighter from a more severe beating. 2 seconds left. By the time Steele had gotten Chavez even partway to a neutral corner, wiped off Taylor's gloves, gotten the fighters in position facing one another, and finally said "Ok, fight...", the bout would have officially been over for 15 minutes.

Terrible display of ring command and wherewithall on Steele's part, bad stoppage. Meldrick Taylor got he piss beaten out of him, but he earned a win that night.

It was the right decision. Otherwise you are saying you can't win a fight in the last 10 seconds if you're down on points. There would be no good slugouts to end fights if you couldn't KO someone with seconds left. Steele did what he was supposed to do. Time doesn't make a damn bit of difference because he's not even supposed to know how much time is left in the round anyway. That's not his job.

Terrible call by Richard "STEAL". He will forever live in infamy for that horrendus call.

Meldrick "TNT" Taylor was clearly and officially up on all scorecards. I give JC Chavez credit for flooring Taylor in the final seconds, but Taylor arose to his feet.

He didn't wobble all over the ring nor was he on unsteady legs. Taylor was obviously buzzed and shocked by what had just happened and the crazy atmosphere surrounding him. Richard STEAL should have simply told him to walk forward, grabbed both of his gloves and let the fight "continue".

But noooooooooooooooooo Richard STEAL was too inept to do such a thing.

BTW, Richard STEAL's poor judgement was put on display again a few years later when he halted TYSON-RUDDOCK way too early.

There is a reason Richard STEAL was still hearing boos a decade after Taylor-Chavez I.

You guys ever wonder what would have happened if Steele had let Taylor continue, and hung on for the final 2 or 3 seconds and won a decision?

Why does it matter how much time was left? nobody in the ring knew how much time was left. The ref said are you okar taylor? taylor just stood there like a deer in the headlights, fights over, cased closed

Really? Was he already pissing blood when the fight was stopped by Dr. Steele? Or was he standing up and ready to continue for two more seconds? And that's what I know.
