They make the most out of their talent although they could have fought better opposition sometimes but atleast they do not waste it by getting out of shape like Toney and Bowe did.

I don't think Bowe was in shape for the 2nd one but he showed a lot of heart taking all that punishment and got up 2 times from the canvas.
He wasn't fat but he was weight-drained.

Bowe was not in great shape for the 3rd Holyfield fight either but he got up after being dropped, survived the rest of the round and then stopped Holyfield.

He took Golota lightly for the first time, came out of shape, ended up almost losing the fight and on top of all that he was getting hammered by low blows.

That would take a lot out of anyone. It is true he was looking for a way out but I wouldn't say it's his lack of heart, just the dirty tactics of Golota, the DQ was justified.

    Ouch.

yeah maybe ,dont get me wrong im not by any means saying Bowe was a quitter cause he deffo was'nt ,his heart Pure heart is one of reasons of why im huge fan of his

Having Intelligence/Capable Of Making Adjustments is the sign of a GREAT fighter but his will/determination/heart will indicate how long they will go and/or be successful...

What is the most important individual quality a great fighter must have?
heart/willpower/determination to me are basically all in the same in an extent...

but i do think i'd want to have the figher topped off with willpower and determination/heart.

most important thing beyond that is smarts and ability to make adjustments.

those are the 2 most important traits for figthers for longevity.

think about all the greats...majority of them were smart and able to make adjustments...and all had great heart.

For me it's chin, no question. You can have all of these things and it won't mean **** if you can't take a good blast in the chops. There have been countless guys who had all the talent, willpower, and skill in the world that had it crushed out of them by a lucky punch or fateful misstep.

The difference to me between the truly great fighters and the really good fighters more times than not was their ability to stand up to damage.

I think Antonio did an excellent job of pointing out how these categories can be interlocked and cross referenced. Many of the great fighters have been dropped only to come back through their force of will and determination, make adjustments, and find a way to win. The truth is you gotta have more than a couple of these things, and you gotta have them working in concert.

In my mind it could be, but I think alot of people make a direct association with heart representing a fighter being able to rise from knockdowns, take awful beatings and rally back directly. Willpower and determination are more a general sort of doggidness I'm guessing.

......But as I write this I'm compelled to agree with you.

Smarts win fights. Your intelligence is 90% of this game. It can take you much farther than you would originally go if you have sub par skills.
