IBF and WBO heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko have according to German paper Bild Zeitung received an offer of five-million euro from Sauerland Event to face Alexander Povetkin, the IBF mandatory challenger - and turned it down. Wladimir insists on fighting WBO mandatory Tony Thompson in July, but the matter is complicated. Sauerland has protested the matter to the IBF and a decision is expected soon. [details]

Exactly right. He will get knocked out easily at this point based on the Chambers fight performance. ****** move, but I can understand it.Comment

They want Wlad to pay them off. Very simple.
I think Wlad should just throw IBF belt in garbage and tell that fat **** to **** off.Comment

In situations like this in the past, the IBF has stripped the titleholder. The other sanctioning organizations have tended to be more reasonable in recent years, but the IBF has been quick to take titles away.
The other option is for the WBO to have Thompson fight for an interim title, and have Wlad fight Povetkin.
Another solution is for the IBF to do something the WBC and WBO have done in the past, although they never have: let Povetkin fight the #1 contender for an interim title, and then fight Wlad next. But the IBF likely won't do it.Comment

I suspect you are right nevertheless dealing with the politics of boxing isn't always that easy. Povetkin fought Chambers to become the IBF mandatory. If he wants to postpone the fight for a year or two both Klitschko and the IBF will have to agree to it. That is rather unlikely.
If the IBF follows its own rules they will order a purse bid then Klitschko can do whatever he wants. Klitschko has known about the IBF mandatory for several months. Why is he more interested in Thompson?Last edited by potatoes; 04-01-2008, 12:32 PM.Comment
