It's a little silly that so many kids find this offensive. If you don't find amusement in that fact as much as I do, then we just differ on this.

"******" is a mentality? Okay then, what kind of mentality is it? Do these kids who protest against the facts I've revealed have that mentality? If they slouch their shoulders but never visited a crackhouse, can they still be ******?
No, I'm not talking about animosity for Bernard, KayJay- that's not what I was getting at. Your dislike for the nieve fans who subscribe to the overly rough, street image you feel Hopkins has built is obvious, that's all.

As far as a ****** mentality, in my eyes, it often coincides with where you live, how you dress, or speak- but those are just aspects of it. Someone can dress, speak, and talk like a thug and not be "******" in my eyes. Ignorance is a prime factor. Might over intelligence- always needing to act hard, fighting for no reason and breaking the law. Generally a lack of common decency and restraint. Just how I view it.

Yes that is obvious. We have no differences here.

            Never thought about a definition.

If I can knock on a door at random and have better than 50% chance of scoring, then I'm in the hood.

            • ok i can dig that. i seems like all you have on bhop is g-town. so since i lived in richard allen project then moved to g-town and mt.airy that stops me from ever living in the hood. let alone i had to go that crappy school mlk high.
do you think he had it easy since he lived in a blue collar area he had it good? with 7 other siblings and no father around. that hard enough with two parents but one. that why i think they had nice check when his dad died cause they moved after that, from the project.

              • FROM TODAY : "Ninety-nine per cent of boxers, and that includes Joe Calzaghe, have not had to overcome what I have," Hopkins says. "So, when it gets to the sixth round, or the eighth, or the ninth, when you have to dig deep into your soul, if you've never been required to do it like I have, you can't. Joe may have achieved what he's achieved but he won't be prepared for someone like me. That's not talk. That's a fact."

That all sounds great ...but...the FACT is that when he got to the 10, 11 and 12th against RJ and Taylor it did NOTHING for him. It is HYPE and nothing else. What he has been through will mean nothing if the guy he is fighting doesnt give him a chance to land solid shots and if the guy outpunches him. This isnt a street fight , its a technical game, strategic..I mean, when haveu ever seen Bernard in a fight that required the type of will that, say, Gatti, Ward, Holyfield, Pazienza, Lamotta, Ali, etc etc were forced to dig up on more than a few occassions? Bernard has been in some tough fights, definitely , but hes never been in a Hagler-Hearns war yet either.

                • man, you guys are reading way too deep into that. He's just saying that his background has helped him Mentally in boxing, which I'm sure is true. Everyones background shapes them into who we are. If he says "99% of boxers" don't have that edge or whatever, who cares if he's exaggerating??? Bhop always exaggerates.

                  • No he said THIS: "So, when it gets to the sixth round, or the eighth, or the ninth, when you have to dig deep into your soul, if you've never been required to do it like I have, you can't"

Now that is plain nonsense.... he is saying that everybody who digs deep into their soul for the first time fails....thats nonsense.

Germantown is one of the more peaceful and affluent neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Bill Cosby is from there as well, as was Sun Ra. White collar workers outnumber blue collar workers by about 9/2. The median income is over $40,000/ year.

Crime rates are some of the lowest in the city.

I didn't grow up in the roughest "hood" either, but even I grew up in a tougher Philly neighborhood than Hopkins did, with higher crime rates and lower median income. So I can't help but laugh when he refers to his tough background: he's a middle class kid! Sure he went to prison, but anyone can do that.

He's built a false image on being "street." But it's not him. Sorry if you thought he would be too "street" for Calzaghe or anyone else, but you have the wrong guy.

I'm a native of North Philadelphia and Germantown is NO white collar area! Germantown is also NO ******! Now here's where your facts start playin twister! Bernard was born and raised in Raymond Rosen Projects, those rough ass projects in North Philly that stretch from 22nd to 25th and Diamond! His mother then MOVED the family to Germantown, out of the hood! Germantown is NO suburbs, its just not part of the ******! Its still a major crime area, I know, my sister used to live there!
Bernard Hopkins hasn't bull****ted the public, you are! And I dont think you REALLY from Philly! We dont get on stage in front of the world and disrespect our homeboys!! B-Hop is as REAL as they get! Germantown is STILL North Philly dont forget that!
