Why not look at how he did against his last 2 live opponents? Paul Williams and Joshua Clottey.

Both out thought, and out fought Margarito.

Joshua Clottey was making Margarito look truly mediocre until he stopped punching because he broke BOTH his hands on Margarito's face. Not only did he make Margarito look very very ordinary, he did a lot of it fighting off the ropes.

Now lets talk about Paul Williams. The man that outworked, outboxed, and outfought the Mexican bad ass. He showed that Margarito is easily confused by anything even remotely resembling movement and a jab.

You talk about Cotto's chin. Its not as bad as people make it out to be. His equilibrium is easily disturbed, but I have never seen him out on his feet, or real serious trouble.

His head stays clear, and he does not lose his composure. He is simply easily wobbled, but this often works to his advantage. Going after a wobbly Miguel Cotto who is still thinking clearly, is still composed, and can still punch is not a good idea.

Also, if you look at the fighters that did wobble him, and the kind of punishment he was able to absorb while he was on shake legs, it is quite impressive.

Take Ricardo Torres for example. Torres was 28-0 with 28 ko's when he made Cotto do his chicken dance. Still, Cotto continued to fight intelligently even while hurt, and absorbing incredible punishment.

I think he proved his chin is good enough in that fight.

His chin is like laminated glass. Its easy to crack, but impossible to shatter.

Cotto can box but will he do it for the whole 12 rounds? Who knows.

The problem is that Margarito doesn't have any style...

How exactly is he suppose to beat Cotto? If you are under the impression that the way to beat Cotto, is to stand in front of him and let him beat on you, then you are sadly mistaken.
If Cotto tries to square up and stand in front of Margarito he's going to find himself on the canvas pronto. No one at welter can brawl toe to toe with Margarito and win. Williams himself admitted this and adjusted his strategy accordingly in their fight. Margarito would love for you to come right at him and slug it out instead of moving and giving him angles. Hopefully Cotto tries to prove just how macho he is and trades shots in a phonebooth turning it into a FOTY type deal.

Do you not understand that Miguel Cotto is capable of dishing out much more punishment than Margarito?

The first step towards understanding how limited Margarito is, is to actually sit down and watch his fights. Once you do, you will realize what a truly average puncher he is.

People like you are under this illusion that Margarito his a power puncher. He is not, he is simply a volume puncher that has managed to overwhelm average opponents that were unprepared for his endurance.

Stop thinking of Margarito as a wrecking machine, stop thinking of him as a power puncher, stop thinking of him as a murderous body puncher, stop thinking of him as a knockout artist, because he is none of those things.

Miguel Cotto IS a Murderous body puncher, a bazooka jabber, a thudding right hand puncher, a brutal beat you down and knock you out fighter.

If Margarito stands and trades with Miguel Cotto, it will not be a good night for Antonio Margarito.

Case and point. People are under the illusion that Margarito is a power puncher.

Now before I respond to this, I wanna say you make all valid points and i green k you for being logical and explanatory about your response... I do feel a little different on some points though.

I personally feel, that Joshua Clottey is an outstanding, underrated figher, and is capable of upsetting, really anyone out there... its not out of the question based on all the upsets that have been happening recently.. But Margarito did pull out that fight, he did what he had to do... But I think that fight is more of a credit to an outstanding performance by Clottey, then it is negative for margarito.

Now lets talk about Paul Williams. The man that outworked, outboxed, and outfought the Mexican bad ass. He showed that Margarito is easily confused by anything even remotely resembling movement and a jab. .
And Paul Williams is my man, I bet on that fight and make 10k for williams, I was rooting for him the whole way... but lets also be honest... If Margarito had turned on the head maybe a round or two sooner that could have been a different outcome.. It took him awhile to get adjusted to P.Wills bugsy bunny type boxing...its like walking into a big tall bouncing weedwacker... which I think it would be hard for anyone to adapt too... (credit to quintana), but he did adapt, and did start doing very well near the end. Paul still won, Im just saying...

                    I do agree with that.

Although I do agree, that he does fight well even though he gets rocked from time to time... I will disagree and say, no one that is wobbly, is exactly "clear headed".

Also, if you look at the fighters that did wobble him, and the kind of punishment he was able to absorb while he was on shake legs, it is quite impressive.

So far...... Id have to agree.

I'm actually very neutral on this subject and a closet fan of Miguel Cotto but this post is laying it on pretty goddamn thick.. You're a great poster Shawn, but this is not your best work. At all.
