When a fighter is raised to such a stature that all else in his division pale in comparison in spite of their own respectable accomplishments, that, in my book, is dominance. Hopkins unified the three main alphabet titles, defended against the best that the weight class has to offer in his era including past and future champions, trounced ambitious challengers who rose from lower weights to face him in his realm, and challenged a Roy Jones, no less, to a return match (that the rematch did not happen, both he and Roy share the blame). Emperors, Dictators, Field Martials...can turn green with envy before such a record. But, Hop as the best middleweight ever? Jury still out, as far as I'm concerned. While I agree that Sugar Ray was at his best at welter, his middleweight record cannot be easily discounted either. And yes, Greb, Hagler, Monzon... The midweights have often been referred to as the "Glamour Boys" of boxing; that was not so under Hopkins' reign (save for some glints brought by the appearances of Tito and Oscar, there was no sheen). Hagler had to get Leonard to add glitz to the division. Twas Robinson and company who brought and enjoyed the haydays; that's perhaps, also, why Robinson's name has always been factored into any reckoning of the division's best. Hagler and Hop have only their records to argue their cases.

Bonus point for Hopkins: He's been able to deal well with the Arums and Kings to this point; he still appears to do things, "My Way". Fighters don't just wage wars atop rings; boxing begins even before contracts are signed. So, for performances outside the ring and in it (combined), Hop's bid for the GREATEST MIDDLEWEIGHT EVER, is enhanced. Hop, join Robinson and company at the head of the class!

I think prime Hagler would beat any middleweight except maybe Monzon...just because of his style...nah Hagler would win.

                    1. Ray Robinson
                    2. Jake Lamotta
                    3. Hagler

Hopkins could not contend with any of those
