You could say they were spectacular, but I don't. Malinga was just covering up and doing nothing and Jones had to resort to feints, and Jones didn't really try to stop Toney, just threw a left hook and circled. Eubank's performance against Wharton was absolutely sizzling.

That wasn't early in Jones's career either, he was already a world champion and had been boxing since age 10. Remember, he's been talking about retirement since 1996. And remember, four years later Eubank was boxing sensationally in world title fights, up at cruiser.

      LOL

it was'nt early in his career well when u consider he is nealry 40+ and still fighting i suggest it was pretty early in his career would'nt u

Malinga beat Benn Twice he got robbed in the 1st fight against Benn ,he went the distance with Eubank aswell ,niether of those 2 could stop him ,when he fought Roy Jones he got KTFO id say thats pretty Spectacular

u dont think it was spectacular the way RJJ Dominated James Toney ,Well

Malinga beat Benn clearly both times, I agree. Benn just couldn't get past his long left jab.

Eubank beat Malinga with an awful lot of ease and had him all over the place with the KD at the end of round five. Eubank's mind was elsewhere for obvious reasons.

Jones's KD of Malinga was quite spectacular, but the performance wasn't so s-p-e-c-t-a-c-u-l-a-r. His wide win over Toney was quite spectacular, but the performance wasn't so s-p-e-c-t-a-c-u-l-a-r.

Eubank was doubling his jab so fast against Wharton you couldn't even detect it, and he was jumping in with unreal combinations from early in the fight right the way through. How Henry stayed on his feet for those 12 rounds and kept coming I'll never know. Hard as ****ing nails.

Eubank & Benn were good fighter but they are vastly overated by British fans because of there popularity & rivalry

if either of them had fought class operators like Mike McCallum ,James Toney ,RJJ , They would have been spanked

James Toney would have done an Iran Barkley on Nigel Benn ,and any top class operator like McCallum would have exposed every single flaw Eubank had in his technique & made him pay for missing

the positions Eubank put himself in after punching were awfull ,Elite fighters would have capatalised on it ,that exactly what Joe Calzghe did IMO

listen i understand what your saying and agree in some ways but

Toney is an Elite fighter who is very cagey and makes very few mistakes & he happens to be one of the best defensive fighters of the last 10 years or maybe more ,It is obvious that Eubank would be inclined to pick a lot of counters up facing a guy like Wharton who walks in without Jabbing is slow as hell & who basically notihng special at all

            Toney is no bum

I see it as a skill the way Eubank could land from out of range and get his chin out of harms way (he only needed to do that against movers). He had great flexibility. It looked weird, but it was effective as ****. Sure, he moved like a robot, but that's because his form was so much better than every other fighter and he used to inspire a lot of people in their martial arts training because of this. Those things are what made him elite.

I do think gifted, fluid fighters who could mix in plenty of body shots with either hand, like McCallum and Toney, would out-work Eubank and beat him over the distance. For sure.

dont get me wrong i like Eubank & Benn i grew up watching them ,i just feel that i need to readdress the balance sometimes because i think to many British posters mistake popularity & rivalry for greatness

we will have to agree to disagree but i honestly could'nt see Eubank beating prime Fighters like Nunn,Toney ,McCallum ,RJJ ,Hopkins

i just dont see him as Elite very good but not Elite ,thats just my humbel opinion though

Interesting. I always thought it was the other way round, that Eubank (and also Nigel) was (and is/are) underrated by boxing fans and the boxing fraternity, down to jealousy.
