Not saying this is true. But all indication points to Maskaev being afraid of Sam Peter. Maskaev does not give off the impression of a wise guy who thinks his time is too valuable for showing up to promotional affairs. This could only mean he is afraid to look Sam Peter in the eye. Maskaev has no choice, he needs to fight Peter.
Sam Peter: "I'm Going To Punish Maskaev"

Whenever I see those 3 knockdowns I'm surprised that the ref let it go on. In a way I'm glad he did because Peter showed what he's made of, but man...
Yeah I think Peter will win, although I like him less and less the more he opens his mouth. Mouthy guys bother me, but mouthy guys that don't back it up with their fists really bother me, he hasn't proven enough to me that he has the right to be mouthy.Comment

You mean that McCline is not on your list of biggest punchers in the history of the division?
Seriously though, it would have been great if Jameel had had more than 8 days notice for the fight, or if he was a better finisher. At 39, with a 15 month layoff, I don't think Maskaev will be able to beat him.Comment

Personally I thought this was the funniest:
"He’s wasted my career because I could have unified all the championship belts by now."
He is lucky in all reality that there was a delay. The second Toney fight helped him develop and I think the Jameel fight taught him he still needs to train and take this seriously. Wladimer would have owned him anytime in 2007. He really needs to develop further to have any hope of unifying. Unlikely goal but not impossible in my opinion.Comment
