That is the way I understand it.

Just saw it now, powerful film indeed. I had seen a doc on Louis before, so I wasn't expecting to learn anything new, but I did. I had no idea he was the first black man to participate in a PGA event. And this one really went into detail about how much of an impact he had.

Gripping stuff...You cant help but feel for what happened to the guy.

And the footage of Ali calling him an Uncle Tom. The hell was that all about?

Ali said a lot of things that were repulsive but that he later apologized for...the NOI had a STRONG influence on him at the time

He had the balls to say women who couldn't reproduce were worthless (not exact quote)...but he later recanted on that later in life

I had seen another doc on him before. It was a movie focusing on him, Dempsey, and Ali; which was good in it's own right. This one getting the HBO treatment was a lot better though, and it went into better detail of his impact on the black community. The visuals and stories of how the blacks reacted to the fights were interesting.

Thanks for posting. I've taken an interest to Liston recently as the avatar shows.
