    Calzaghe's workrate won't matter

Most people have this punchstats mentality comparing Bernard's workrate to Joe's and automatically assume that Joe has this fight won.

What about counter punching? If you try to throw too many punches, you're exposing yourself to a counter and we all know Bernard is a brilliant counter puncher. And who's to say that Joe won't get rocked, clocked and taken out if caught by these counter punches?

That should explain my signature below. The way Bernard will reduce the workrate of Joe's is by making him pay with counters. The same way Marquez made Pacquiao pay in their first fight. Will Joe be able to adjust his gameplan if Plan A isn't working throwing alot of punches?

When it comes down to it, we all know that Bernard is a better all around boxer/technician then Joe is.

hmm I don't think hopkins is the better all round fighter nd if he wasts too he'll slow the pace down and counter himself a la the kessler fight, calzaghe like hopkins is no means a one trick pony, I just don't think Hopkins has the goods aanymore.

        .

Will Bernard be able to produce enough counterpunches to be able to isolate joe's workrate? he wont have an easy time clinching joe up like he did against Wink.

I agree. Hopkins is simply too good against southpaws, too good with the lead right hand (which Calzaghe has ate all his life), and too good not to be able to land counter right hands every time Calzaghe falls short with his slappy flurries. He's also going to be stronger than ever, when you get older you can't increase speed but you can increase strength... he'll hurt Calzaghe with every punch and beat him down gradually until he folds.

Exactly what BHop said during yesterdays conference that it dont matter if Calzaghe throws 1,000 punches around because that 1,000 openings for him, so it makes sense Calzaghe wont be allowed to go that wild against such an experienced fighter like my man BHop

Joe has always had a Plan A, Plan B and Plan C. Look at the Kessler fight and see what I mean.

Joe squares up with his chin up, looks at the floor sometimes when he throws, etc. Bernard is a far better technician, and that will show.

Exactly what I've been saying, Joe's workrate won't win him the fight.

However, I think his speed definietly could. If you look at the bouts at Jones and Taylor, both of these guys had very good speed. I think Joe moving around the ring and working in at angles could possibly win him the fight.

With all that though, I still am picking Hopkins to win. Nmburner22 (or whatver his name was) made a very good topic on why Hopkins would win and I agreed with it. Though, I wouldn't be suprised if Joe won because Joe is very good.

No one wins out of the water though.

Because B-Hop has rhythm. Joe looks like a ***** fighting his way out of spider webs if you ask me. It's obviously effective but will it be against a guy of Hopkins's calibre? Lets not forget that Hopkins has been in there with a prime Jones and was very competitive (in a time where Jones barely lost rounds) not because he is that tough but because he has good boxing skills. The 44-0 record doesn't tell the whole story, just ask Hatton.
