Better Inside Fighter: Cotto vs Mayweather (poll) Credit to Piggu

Piggu, made a thread about whose the better inside fighter... I was compelled to make a poll about it... I found it intriguing, because peoples automatic assumption is cotto, like something went off in there head... as Run W/Knives said in the related thread...

I specifically remember in the Baldomir fight.. when Floyd stopped moving.. turned sideways, put his right glove up, and his left covering the stomach... typical floyd defense... and he started walking.. right into baldomir.. and literally allowing carlos to just throw at him, while floyd picked them off and countered, right inside the pocket...

Im not comparing Baldomir to Cotto.. but more floyds ability to do that to someone, who DOES have power...

All credit goes to Piggu, for the idea of this thread.

The fighter with the better inside based offensive attack is Cotto.

Floyd is the better inside fighter, simply if he wants to be.

Baldomir had 13 KO/TKOs in 58 fights at the time and is slow as dirt, so I imagine you wouldn't be comparing him to Cotto.

As I said in the first post.. no im not comparing them... But he CAN punch... he did catch up with Zab Judah... now we all know zab isnt the GREATEST fighter to have lived.. but he is QUICK... and baldomir DID catch up to him...

So based on that... its safe to say Carlos isnt necessarily weak... or slow with his punches... and floyd could stay right in the pocket with him... as Run w/knives said.... when he wants to.

Zab made Baldomir look like he was standing still for the first 5 rounds or so, and then, well I'm not exactly sure what happened then, because Zab just decided to quit fighting.

I'm not denying Floyd's skills on the inside, just saying that a clubfighter like Baldomir isn't the best example of them.

*Points to Mayweather's shortened compact left hooks inside*

I don't think video evidence is much of a ****ing problem.

Or hell, right hands for that matter.

Hell of a way to throw away being the undisputed WW champ.

Back to the thread, I'll have to think about it some more. I'm leaning toward Floyd and THAT CAN'T BE RIGHT.

or his short quick counter right hands when hes in his shell... not to mention hes rolling everything your doing... and when he throws combinations, he is one of the best...

Basically what it comes down to is... theres nothing that Cotto can do Better than PBF...

Cotto cannot cut off the ring faster than Floyd can circle him

Cotto cannot goto the body at will, without getting sharp counters to the face

Cotto cannot land on floyd, as easy as floyd can land on him

Cotto has slowed down before, NEVER ONCE has pbf slowed down

Cottos BEEN knocked down, PBF has NEVER been knocked down

Cotto has good hand speed, but its NOT faster than Floyds

Cotto has decent defense, but its NOT touching floyds defense

Cotto has rawer power, PBF has sharp accurate power

Let cotto goto the body.. and let him pay for it.

I just cant see ANY possible reason... Cotto can OUTDO anything Floyd can do

                    bold....all of it.

cotto has more punching power. period. "rawer power"...what?

cotto cuts off the ring as well as anyone i have seen in a long time. i have been watching the sport for what seems like ages now. he'll force floyd to fight more than anyone has before, sans hatton's roughhousing tactics.

cotto went down from a push. floyd's glove touched the canvas against judah. who cares who has been down before? both fighters are capable of being hurt. that's the important thing.

cotto doesn't need faster hands or better defense. they only need to be good enough for him to effectively implement his game plan.

as far as the topic at hand goes, floyd is better overall inside fighter. he throws compact punches where they need to be and in a hurry. he maintains sound defense inside. floyd also does a great job of, as antonio mentioned, setting his opponent up and maneuvering his body so that he can get the advantage inside.
