Floyd is like Brady in the pocket (minus the loss to the giants). He just flat out has more tricks up his sleeve.

I think Mayweather is slightly better, especially when he uses his elbows to create angles for his shots, Cotto has the better body attack on the inside but Mayweather has better awareness.

floyd by far, just watch the fight with n'dou if you want to compare a fighter with the likes of cotto, seeing how they both have many knockouts, but anyway, like run with knives posted earlier, there is nothing that cotto does that will ever be better than what floyd does, and floyd does it with accuracy and finesse, meaning, he does everything beautfiully, and his punches are rarely, i MEAN RARELY, thrown sloppy. floyd's fight with chavez demonstrated just how complex he is on the inside, cotto would eat punches all night, and i believe if and when they fight, cotto will eat uppercuts all night by floyd, because, although floyd doesn't throw many uppercuts usually and has really never implemented them into his arsenal like he is more than capable of doing, his adjustment to fighters is impecable and cotto gets hit with uppercuts. floyd is the better inside fighter, and his ability to angle his body to offset his opponents puts him above the rest, because his flexibilty and quickness are phenomenal. i mean, just look at the fight with chavez and corley, he landed some vicious uppercuts while moving his body out of the way of punches on chavez, and against corley, he landed a solid right hook, followed quickly by solid right uppercut and left hook, just showing how fast his upperbody movement is in the pocket to be able to position himself to throw these shots.

i guarantee you all, even though floyd's jab isn't the way it used to be, like the power and speed isn't the same, they has diminished to an extent(he doesn't have the jab he had when he fought cooper and especially justin jukko, just watch that fight, and you'll see just how hard and fast floyd threw his jab, and he also threw it off of the block and to the body very hard and fast), even though he doesn't have the combinations he used to have at 130-140, and even though his power overall isn't as dynamic as it used to be, floyd's mindet is still as sharp as a tac, and he is still very athletic as well as accurate, and cotto would find out very strongly that floyd mayweather jr is a huge step out of his league, and cotto would lose to floyd and will lose to floyd if they fight, he's not the special fighter it takes to beat floyd, floyd is too good.

Tough call, but after the Hatton fight (see Gavinz avatar...) I am starting to think that Mayweather's bag of tricks is so deep, that the answer could be him.

Are you all kidding me? Floyd, an inside fighter, get serious.

The same could be said for Judah and Mosley. Cotto doesn't have better defense than them, Cotto isn't as beautiful as them in combinations or footwork. Cotto doesn't have the hand speed either of those fighters have, Cotto doesn't have the one punch power either of those fighters have......GUESS WHAT they both LOSS to Cotto. Your statement which I bolded means nothing.

Put the two of them in the ring together and who do you think will be willing to fight on the inside? Floyd is at his absolute worst when he is crowded and pressured. Jose Luis Castillo fight anyone?

This was my reply in the original Piggu thread which lacked the poll.

This may sound crazy I'm a huge Cotto fan but I think PBF is a better very close fighter. Cotto needs just a little more room to do his best work. PBF's infighting (like when Hatton and DLH were too close and smothering themselves) is beautiful.

There is little room for punches until PBF wants to make room. He will then give a sholder pop or forearm slighth shove and then he'll land a very tight punch. Its like James Toney if your literally sholder to sholder with him you aint gonna land anything worth a damn but you bet that he'll sneak a very clean short shot in there from time to time.

Sam Peterson smartened up in his second fight against James Toney and took half a step back when James Toney went to the ropes. This allowed him to be a thousand times more effective. Hatton and DLH for all there flapping of arms when they had PBF on the ropes didn't do crap (just look at PBF's post fight face). If Cotto has the same distance it wont serve him well, but if he has patience and takes that Peterson half a step distance then he can do some good work inside.

PBF is a better inside fighter especially when he stays in the pocket, Because of his reflexes and speed he sees things other boxers dont see, The only thing Cotto does better has an inside fighter is going to the body which he does well.
