Just want to break this down.

I have been a fan of MMA since it was called Vale Tudo in Brazil. Before the UFC or any of that garbage existed.

Kimbo is not an MMA fighter. He is an absolute bum who doesn't do anyhting but fight other bums. He has no skill at all, and was beat down in a street fight by an F level former pro boxer who was even horrible at boxing named Sean Gannon. Sean then went into MMA and faced Brandon Lee Hinkle, another horrible fighter, and lost in 20 seconds.

No real fan of MMA thinks of Kimbo as an MMA fighter. Elite XC promoting him is hurting our sport, and Kimbo is a complete and utter joke.

So your friends don't know **** about boxing or MMA and are probably gigantic ******s.

He might not be an mma fighter or even the best but I don't think he's hurting the sport in anyway.

He has very little skill, makes more money then anyone in the top 40 at HW and is being billed as an "Internet street fight legend".

They hype him up like he will fight anyone, but he has ducked at least 10 pro fighters. Two of whom said they would fight him for free.

He is a joke, and only used by EXC to make the money and appeal to the ****** lowest common denominator crowed.

So like I've said on this site before. The majority of the people I talk to and hang out with at times are casual MMA fans. By casual, I mean, these dudes WATCH MMA, but don't really care to learn the history or record of a fighter. They'll pay to watch the UFC fights and watch the free shows on Elite XC, WEC, UFC, Pride, Bodog all that ****. And according to them, they watch it because its exciting and there's KO's in almost every fight. The last boxing the majority of them saw was the De La Hoya/Mayweather fight. Of course, they thought it was boring and they REALLY dislike Mayweather which is why the majority didn't watch or buy Mayweather/Hatton so they don't know that THAT fight was actually exciting (in my opinion).

Anyway, one of my co-workers asked if I was gonna cop the fight and another co-workers overheard and said, "why dont yall buy it at my house, im having a get together for my friend's birthday?". Co worker liked the idea and I figured it could save me $25 bones since he would pay for half of it. But in the back of my mind I was hoping that he wouldn't bring up the "Kimbo/Abbot" fight on Showtime. So I get to my homay's house and theres people there. The TV was off and they had music on and smokin, drinkin and eating. I turn the TV on, get my homay to buy the fight. I watched the first 2 undercards with no sound because everyone was listening to music. Me and my girl were the only ones really IN to the fights, we got to turn up the TV midway the Mijares fight and since it was a good fight, other people were casually watching. Get the Montiel/Castillo fight, the music stops, we watch Castillo get counted out. Here comes Pavlik/Taylor. The other dude who paid for the fight gets there and we get to watch it with no music in the background and half of the party watching and the other half outside in the backyard.

It kind of ****** that they didnt know the history of their first fight because it didnt add to the drama of the rematch. They SEEMED to be entertained even with the pace of the fight. I only heard one dude ask if they could change it and thats cuz I went to the restroom. The fight ended and thats when my homay put it on the "Kimbo/Abbot" fight, he has DVR so he recorded it while we watched the fight. Soon as he put it on there, almost all the guys in the room were like "KIMBO!! HE'S A BAD MUTH****A YALL. THAT DUDES A BEAST MAN LOOK AT HIM". Kimbo gets rid of Abbot quickly and of course someone says, "DAMN KIMBO IS THE REAL DEAL MAN! HE WOULD **** UP THAT WHITE BOY WHO JUST WON THE OTHER FIGHT, WHAT WAS HIS NAME? PAVLIK YEAH"

One other dude had the sense to say that comparing both sports really makes no sense. Other dudes dont understand and think Kimbo could compete in boxing as a heavy weight because of his size and power. I chime in and tell them that muscles arent an indication of talent and ability and that being too muscular and big like Kimbo actually slows and tires you out in 12 rounds of Boxing. Another dude says that with Kimbo, no one would last 3-4 rounds and thats why he wouldn't have to worry about that. I tell them that in all the youtube videos they've seen of Kimbo on the net, he is boxing. Doesnt do any MMA but just boxes. But he decided to go into MMA for some reason. If he could compete in boxing he could make some real $$$, more than in WEC. I asked the dude why he thinks he Kimbo didnt go into boxing, he responded with, "Because he prolly wanted to be a complete fighter". I went outside to the backyard.
Pavlik would get robbed by Kimbo too after he KOd him.

He's getting more people to watch, which is good, but I guess he's hurting the credibility of the sport. I mean he's basically a glorified street fighter and there are probably young kids out there that watch him fight and think that's what MMA is. When it's really about all forms of fighting and being well rounded an example would be a George St. Pierre. Now that's a guy that represents what MMA is all about and I don't think Kimbo does that.

He is a street fighting bum and is being promoted in MMA like he wouldn't lose to anyone in the top 50.

It's bad for the sport because Mixed Martial Arts has many extremely talented and trained Athletes and it's struggling to gain mainstream acceptance because people think it's no different then street fighting. Which is completley wrong. Yet Kimbo is being promoted on Shotime as a street fighter and competing in MMA on a major network.
