I agree with this and its typical, people tend to recognize and show more love to their own. I wasnt trying to start a bad thread only stating the obvious, still doesnt make it right. I noticed Pavlik has been on tv so much since he got the belt, I dont recall other champions having exposure like that winning their first title fight.

so the fact that he was an underdog who completely destroyed an undefeated champion had nothing to do with it?

You missed the point, those guys were champs for a long time, Pavlik has one title and no defense yet and Ive seen him on tv so much you would think he was in his 20th defense.
For example, in 1964 Muhammed Ali was a household name, on the front page of every magazine, although he had won only one championship fight at that time. The media has largely ignored the best heavyweight today, Wladimir Klitschko, yet we always heard so much about Holyfield, Lewis, Bowe and Tyson back in the 90s.

Do you know how many underdogs have won titles and not been on tv period?

Slightly true. It's kind of the same reason alot of the hip hop community is drawn to a Floyd or a Zab. It's familiarity. American white champion that is. That being said boxing gloves are usually read and getting a W has no color to it so that is what counts.

he brought a title home to an area of the country that has had nothing to cheer for in the last 20 years. that is a big reason he has gotten so much press!

Too many to count. Ive seen Pavlik on tv far more than I saw Taylor on tv and he defeated a guy with 20 defenses TWICE!
