    Jermain's career over?!

I've seen this thought from several people recently. They say, "Pavlik is going to KO Jermain again and end his career!" Often it's said with enthusiasm or pride- as if you gain something watching an athlete lose the ability to perform. I'm a bit unsure if it's just a love of brutality that makes people excited to say something like this..but it seems rather immature and ******. If people said that before the McClellan-Benn fight...wouldn't they feel horrible? You can die in that ring or, in the case of men like Gerald be forever damaged.

In a violent sport like boxing, isn't it the height of disrespect to wish someone's career is ended? I have seen at least a dozen different people express sentiments that Jermain's career will be ended by a second, equally brutal, knock-out loss. There's no trepidation, or worry in their statement.....you guys haven't seen people saying this? I feel like that's the height of ******ity and ignorance- especially when Jermain Taylor is a generally respectful boxer who doesn't talk ****.

    Thoughts?

"To me, boxing is like a ballet, except there's no music, no choreography, and the dancers hit each other”--

That's boxing you wierdo. It's two guys in an enclosed square for 12, 3 minute rounds you need to be the one standing up last.

getting knocked out is one of 2 ways to lose. If your not prepared for that dont be a prizefighter. be a ballarina, maybe even a balladier.

I want taylor to win, so he can show everyone that Pavlik isn't invincible. And if he fails, then Joe Calzaghe will have taylors left overs and finish Pavlik. Theres no way in hell I would favor Pavlik over Calzaghe, Pavlik wouldn't even be able to hit Calzaghe. Kessler had a hard enough time trying to land flush shots on calzaghe. And personally I consider Kessler a better boxer then Pavlik.

What is so hard for people to understand? Boxing is not solely about knocking someone out. It's not about bashing their face in, breaking the other guy's nose, it's not centered on dislocating jaws or shattering orbital bones- yes, all that happens but it's not the focus.

Boxing is a sport in which hitting another man in the object, but wishing physical harm on another person- to the extent of ending their career...well, ****, I think most boxers would agree that's just disrespectful. The fact that I made a thread wondering why people are saying, "I hope Jermain ends his career by getting KTFO", and having you answer by telling me that's just boxing...well...I guess I got my answer.

        Thanks.

It is mostly by newbies trying to make names for themselves. But even if he loses Pavlik won't be near as big as Taylor is.

let me remind people that in taylor/pavlikI taylor got close to winning in the second and he was ahead on the cards when he got knocked out.

              .
Yes, that is the objective. All these things are, how proficient you are in this craft leading up to a possible stoppage will win you rounds, points.

                We all perceive boxing differently.

His career won't be over if he loses again by KO.

He is still a top guy at 160-168 it would just mean Pavlik has his number.

I hate it when people say someone will win by 'brutal KO'.

                  Very disrespectful.

So for you, boxing is just an exercise in knocking someone out? If they fail to do that, it goes to the cards, but you just want to see someone get knocked out- and that's the sport in a nutshell?

Awesome. You're teaching me a thing or two. I thought it was a sport in which, while violence was the vehicle, had more nuances and skill than just being about knocking someone out.

It's like saying baseball is only about home runs. That's it. It's about scoring and the best way to do that is a home run- therefore, it's all about knocking that ****ing ball out of the park. Well...no...not exactly.
