By virtue of who's fought who Cotto has bested everyone in the division except PBF.. he's absolutely done more at WW than PBF.
In the long run, resting on his laurels for a year while keeping his name recognition high by fighting DLH again is what's best for a potential Mayweather-Cotto fight. If everyone thinks Mayweather is going to win a decision it won't be as big of a deal as it would be if Cotto starts getting people behind him thinking that because he's been more active against top welterweights he might just have too much for Floyd. Gomez obviously isn't a good start, but the Margarito-Cintron 2 winner mostly makes up for that.

Sure Floyd might win, maybe even by a wide UD.. but this is boxing, you have to actually do it. Talking about it shouldn't get you any credit or respect. PBF just talks about being great. He hasn't done anything great in quite a while.. Other than selling big money exhibitions.

I do honestly believe that Mayweather has every intention of fighting Cotto within the next 2 years. Maybe i have too much faith in Mayweather. I really think he's trying to let interest in the fight buildup.. If he doesn't take the fight at some point, his legacy will become a punching bag. I'm 90 percent sure he will though, and it's gonna be a treat to watch.

I think you're being a little too hard on Floyd. He hasn't done anything great? He's probably a natural 130/135 lber. and he's beat Judah, Baldomir, DLH and Hatton all in a row. Cotto is the only 147 lber. who comes close to matching that over the last two years. The fight has to happen eventually and it probably will. Does the fact that it won't happen in 2008 make it less significant? Did the fact that Mayweather-Hatton happened at 147 instead of 140 make it less significant? I don't know how it could, but maybe you disagree.

You're right. If he doesn't fight Cotto that will be a stain on him because he's mostly going to be remembered as a welterweight. I don't see why it won't happen. Floyd doesn't like Arum, but the money will be there by next year to where who cares if Arum is involved?

That's just it, Floyd isn't ******. He knows most of us think he will beat Cotto and Cotto isn't that big enough, big enough to the point where the world would stop just for their bout. The bout is building up and it WILL happen in 09, bank on it.

PBF/Cotto will probably be the biggest money fight PBF can get his hands on next year + its required for his legacy.. Speaking strictly of work in the welterweight division. I'm completely not impressed with his entire WW work being capped off by victories over Baldomir and Judah. IMO Judah is a punching bag at this stage. Cotto has beaten better men in this division.. Anyways, PBF/Cotto will be a lot of fun if and when it happens

Are you really completely unimpressed or are you just saying that? Judah is not a punching bag. Who treated him like a punching bag other than Cotto in the last 4 rounds?

I mean considering how Cotto's win over Judah was his most impressive performance to date I'd think you'd call Judah something other than a punching bag, but hey do you.

Cotto could possibly own the WBA, WBO, and IBF belts by the end of the year...Floyd will be forced to fight him by next year.
