THE RING: "Our pound-for-pound list is based entirely on opinion"

    April 2008 edition, page 137.

Exactly what I've always said. Too many punk kids on here talk about this mythical "P4P" as if the rankings are somehow set in stone, or it's an achievement earned in the ring, etc.

The entire CONCEPT of "P4P" is a HYPOTHETICAL one. It goes like this: "if all the fighters in the world were the same weight, who would win?"

Now, no one can KNOW that. Not unless they put Wlad in a shrinking chamber or put Floyd in a grow bag. It's just for FUN. And before any Floyd fans start, I'm not suggesting he's not P4P No.1 (as if would dare ) it's the entire concept, like people arguing that Winky should be higher than Calzaghe because he's fought more proven competition (FFS, it ain't based on divisional rankings... if The Blow and Winky were the same weight, who do you think would win? Simple).

Basically, if you take "P4P" really seriously (a bunch of bored journalists each vote, and often get proved wrong, as when Sugar Shane, Roy and Bernard suddenly WEREN'T the No.1 overnight) then you're a ****sexual with AIDS. Fact.

Exactly, I always thought it was more about buzz and marketing. Not based on real stats.

Aye. I've read so many punk kids on here talk about it as if it's based on something tangible.

I take the P4P rankings pretty seriously actually.

I guess I am a ****ing ****** who is oozing AIDS according to Annie.

Really though, it is the opinion of experts.

Hell, world champions (because of who gets ranked highly to begin with), rankings, and who gets to fight who are all based on opinions. There are no set schedules or anything like that, so everything in the sport IS based on opinion.

I like P4P because it does give you a picture of the top 10 fighters in the sport.

It's based on accomplishment more so than fantasy fights anyway.

True, but it's still bollocks. I mean, Pacquaio is never gonna fight Bore Hard now, is he?

P4P .. was created at a time when people Only Really cared about the Heavyweights... It was just a Gimmick to try and muster up some interest in the lighter divisons...
                  Today it is WAY overused..
