So there was more demand to fight Baldomir back then than there is to fight Cotto now? Really?

That's a good point, people forget that Mayweather verbally agreed to a fight against Spinks before backing out and signing to fight Baldy.

So Mayweather wanted Spinks, a guy that Judah had stopped the year before, right after beating Judah himself. Maybe logic caught up to him there and he decided Baldy was an easier fight that made more sense. And $ense.

He already had a set ppv date with no official opponent, and Margarito was the only fighter willing to face Floyd. Floyd then started desperately seeking an opponent, and asked Mosley and Spinks. Mosley had already stated that he would be taking the rest of the year off after his rematch with Vargas, so that got shut down. Unless u suffer from insomnia, a fight between Spinks and Floyd is out of the question, and the promoters realized that, so that got shut down. Floyd was left with the winner of Gatti/Baldomir, and decided to fight the winner. Those are the facts!
Out of curiousity, what do you think Floyd would've done in the event that Gatti won?

Yup, and Floyd wouldn't have fought Oscar if he didn't have the WBC belt at 154.

Not sure why they're fighting now though.

I am not doubting what you are saying is facts and I never stated PBF was determined to become the WW lineal champ. I asked that question because you always seem to hate the fact that PBF fought Baldomir. I for one have never stated that beating Baldomir was a great feat because like someone state he was like Buster Douglas winning that fight. My only thing is that it made sense and cents for PBF to relieve Baldomir of those belts.

Im just pointing out how Floyd took the path of LEAST RESISTANCE by fighting Baldomir, then has the nerve to say that he's the best WW in the world. Its a common pattern of Floyd, and that's why i choose not to praise him the way some posters here do. I'd rather be a fan of a guy who has 2-3 losses on his record, but has faced the top comp. Example: Tito Trinidad.

IMO PBF would have gotten the same amount of credit for beating Margarito as he did in beating Baldomir. PBF would have been a heavy favorite going into a fight with Margarito. That is not to say that Margarito isn't better than Baldomir but if he is it isn't by much to be honest.
