I think he's right in his prime, maybe at the tail end of it.

They didn't have to do anything to hype this fight, correct? I mean, there wasn't even a need for a 24/7 was there?
Hey let me teach you a little something. You have chronic hand injuries right? So ummmmm I don't know, you go to therapy to........uh......................help FIX those problems, correct? Now now this might be a little difficult to understand but when these problems are FIXED you can PUNCH again, as hard as you like even. Floyd was quoted as saying he showed himself getting the therapy to let the fans know that he was human and his body isn't invincible. Now what he DID do to aid in making it seem like Ricky had a chance was backing off on the slagging of Ricky's ability. Otherwise he would have the "RJJ ability" where noone would pay to see the bout because they already knew the outcome.

I really think he is a bit past his prime myself.

I don't see the sharpness that he had in his previous fights...

When is the last time you saw him really counter effectively with a right over the jab?

Philip N'dou is about the last time I saw it... even though it showed up a few times against Gatti.

He also seems to have gotten a bit sloppier on defense. He still rarely gets hit, but it does seem more frequent from where it was back in his older days.

He clearly has lost speed when he kept moving up in weights to fight bigger guys and his power isn't the same as it was in the lower weights (130, 135) Is Mayweather past his his best?
no, imo. beats everyone from 140 and down, easy. it would be nice to see him fight a real welter or even a REAL challenge before he is past his prime.

He really isn't suited to be fighting at welterweight... and I'm not making excuses, because it is his own damn fault that he has gotten himself in this position. If he wasn't so money hungry, he could have ruled over 140 for a while, but he wanted the big $ fights, and now he is expected to beat the best in a weight class that dwarfs him.

Bad move when looking into the future.

are you serious? imo, it was his right hand that made oscar say "i don't know jim, just wasn't a jab night".

i agree totally. and think he loses to most of the top welters. i like floyd but he's too small for the best real welters and would have more problems than most people think.

Emanuel Steward said during the later rounds after Oscar abandoned his jab that there was no reason that he should have stopped. Jim then asked if it was because of the right hand counter, and Steward said that Floyd hadn't landed one of those all night, so that wasn't it.

I didn't see any of them land, and if they did, they obviously weren't super effective, since they didn't catch the eye.

I don't know about that... I think he proved in the Oscar fight that size doesn't matter unless you are jab-dependent. I mean, nothing worked against him except for the jab.

then we didn't see it the same. i saw 4-5 very good counter right hands that went right over oscar's jab and that was my opinion as to why he stopped throwing it.

steward can say what he believes, my eyes work just fine...
