Is Floyd Mayweather out of his Prime?

Your opinions? He looked good against Hatton but even a 30% Mayweather would look good. He has been a world champion for over 10 years and has had 39 fights, (18 Title fights) in 5 different weight classes and two retirements. He clearly has lost speed when he kept moving up in weights to fight bigger guys and his power isn't the same as it was in the lower weights (130, 135) Is Mayweather past his his best?

No. If anything, I think he's gotten a bit better. At Jr.Lightweight and Lightweight he was a bit to reckless at times or too defensive at times. He has a perfect mix now. You could say "What mix? All he does is potshot"

That was against bigger guys and even then when oppurtunity presented itself he still threw some combinations.

I really do believe so. Mayweather doesn't throw enough combinations and gets hit more. He seems disinterested in boxing now. He can't beat the younger fighters anymore. Guys like Cotto, Williams, they want it more than Mayweather. Hatton was an opportunistic move, no doubt about it.

I agree with every word of that post. Now he throws one punch at a time and doesn't have the speed or power he had at lower weights. he also constantly breaks his hands after fights now.

Not until he loses, then everyone will say hes out of his prime.

This actually makes more sense, but I think he could still beat Cotto (maybe Williams). Mayweather didn't really have a big ring to work with Oscar and he seemed a lot more used to it, then say the Jesus Chavez and Jose Luis Castillo bouts.

He was better before IMO. His hands are a real problem, after nearly every fight he hurts them,no one has discussed this topic so far and im surprised about it. I think Cotto can beat Mayweather right now, and he even has a better chance if floyd breaks his hands again, they're brittle. mayweather before was very quick, had power, threw combinations, took more risk, now i think he knows he cant afford to take a risk specially when he has been in the game for a long time and has seen everything

Think about it, would you pick a guy nicknamed "Money Mayweather" would have the heart and desire after 12 years as a pro and a flawless career to beat Cotto, the most punishing body puncher since Chavez, or Paul Williams, a freak of nature who throws 100 punches for 12 rounds?

Hatton was a different story. He brought heart but didn't have power and had a mental block at 147. Hatton was the kind of opponent who was bred to lose to a megastar in a superfight.

Mayweather throwing one punch at a time won't beat Cotto or Paul Williams.

Floyd is past it a bit. He has turned defensive Hopkins-esque at this late stage of his career. Both gym **** but their offense has decreased at their late stage. They're still veterans who know what it takes to win a fight but nothing like at their prime.

Wow this is a new one! Floyd is not old at all! In great shape probably in the best shape of any boxer. He went up in weight and handled a much bigger dlh. he came back down and ko'd hatton. Of course you're not going to carry your power when you go up in weight like floyd did. 5 different weight classes! The higher you go the bigger and harder the people are to knock out you can't expect someone as naturally small as floyd to go up 5 weight classes and knock people out no one is capable of that. Floyd is in his prime. he can handle any welterweight.
