If thats the case then i truely do not agree with that, Cotto deserves to fight Mayweather just as Williams deserve to fight Cotto ahead of Williams.

Look, to be honest, ALL ranked Welters deserve a shot at each other. Both sides need to be honest and admit that. Thats why they are ranked. Williams should not be criticized for calling out Cotto. Thats how you make your career right? At the same time, Cotto should be treated the same. Cotto to this point, has done enough to be the person next in line to fight Mayweather. We arent talking about who will bring in the most money, WE as the fans should not concern ourselves with that because WE as the fans want to see the best quality fights. Not the fights that will make the most financial sense for another grown man. Cotto should be fighting Mayweather next, not De La Hoya. Cotto shouldnt have to clean out the whole division including Williams to earn his shot. Whether certain posters here will admit it or not, Cotto is also a star in the division. He has gotten to the point in his career where other fighters need to earn the right to fight HIM as well. Just like he had to earn the right to fight Mosley and Mayweather. Paul hasnt gotten to that point yet. Paul JUST became a champion. He will BARELY be defending his newly acquired belt against Quintana.

Now, with all that being said, Mayweather obviously will only be fighting once this year. It will only make sense for Cotto and Williams to meet up LATER this year. Let Williams bring up his stock. Let Williams make more noise and I'm sure Cotto will have no choice but to fight Williams at the end of 08.

If you are relating it to Mayweather (Which this thread has nothing to do about) then Baldomir was the linear champion at 147 and had a better resume than Margarito + a guaranteed 8 million dollars + PPV revenue.

The fight would have had the same result as the Baldomir fight, wide ud for FM, Margarito would have done slightly better, I would rather see Mayweather beat a linear champion than a paper champ who held a WBO title.

I Agree with all of that especially the part where we the fans should be concern about how much these fighters make in fights, We should concentrate on the actual fighting itself nothing else.

Well said, One of my main point has alway been why would Arum go ahead with a Cotto/Margarito fight when He could have made Cotto/Williams since Williams beat Margarito....Arum said straight after the Williams/Margarito fight that he would even look at Williams as an option for Cotto...That should tell you something.
