True enough, Shane does like to play Counterpuncher a lot and doesn't jab nearly enough (I think if he jabbed more often he'd have beaten Cotto), but to me he's a boxer in the same sense of Hopkins. Excellent boxing brain and in ring intelligence, amazing conditioning and stamina, and able to offset his opponets with his athletic ability.

Though I can see your argument as well, with him lacking in the footwork and jabbing departments.

Vernon Forrest was outboxed by Quartey. He's looked good against decent fighters recently. Why is everyone so high on him?

I will agree that Quartey deserved the victory but I honestly believe that was an "off night" for Vernon. There's simply no other reason that a fighter as skilled as Forrest would lose so badly to a fighter of Quartey's level.

If it hadn't been for his repeated shoulder injuries and Ricardo Mayorga derailing him, Vernon would be considered a Hall of Famer as I type this now. I honestly believe that.

Yeah Malignaggi's got to be up there as well. I don't see how Mosley is a pure boxer. I don't see Hopkins as one too much. Hopkins is real crafty though but he has power as well.

Yeah but his level of power has been iffy at best. Couldn't hurt Taylor, it drilled Tarver, couldn't hurt Winky but killed Oscar. I'd say he's a very inconsistent puncher in terms of power. Some even say Oscar took a dive and that Tarver was weight-drained, so that taints the power a bit IMO.

I think he stunned Taylor a few times late in the fight. Not enough for a KO but did stun him(had him on the ropes and all). Bernard is willing to trade and stands toe to toe. Guys like Calderon and Malignaggi retreat for the most part.

Hopkins is gonna have to fight really defensively to beat Calzaghe. A lot of counterpunching possibly trying to catch him with one big shot at times. He's not outworking Calzaghe IMO.

anyone who puts ivan calderon in their lists loses my respect....

                  anyway:

1-Jorge Linares(not saying he is the best, but his is boxing at its purest, offense-deffense-activity-ring generalship-picking his shots)

                  2-Winky Wright(basics-basics-basics offense-defense)\

3-Joe Calzaghe(when he boxes, he is pretty much a more offensively complete, less defensevely capable winky wright)

4-Floyd Mayweather(he'd probably be #1 if his offense wasnt so sporadic and if he didnt play defense a little excessively)

5-Juan Diaz(offense-defense-activity-ring generalship-etc....maybe a little too much on the offensive side...)

choices of other posters taht i consider to be very wrong:

1-Jermain Taylor- he has to be the most incomplete elite fighter....i still luv him though

2-Ivan Calderon- he has 0 offense....and to be somebody who plays defense more than anyone in the sport, he has gone through a lot of troublesome moments....if the other guy doesnt attack him what in hells's name is he gonna do???

3-Cory Spinks-0 Offense, if the other guy doesnt attack him what in hell's name is he gonna do???

4-JM Marquez- Defense is very flawed.....offense is ace though...

                  5-Vernon Forrest-flawed defense, bad footwork

Good list though I dont think JMMs defense is as flawed as you make it seem. I think recently he has felt a great need to make matches more exciting to he's decided to slug it out more. He shut down the Pacman offensive train after the first round and if theres one thing the Pacman is good at its offense.

And Vernon doesnt have any head movement, thats why he gets nailed.
