    The Top Five: Pure Boxers

So this is a new idea I've been kicking around in my head, to do a "top five" thread every week that relates only to the state of boxing currently, no discussion of fighters from the past. Each week would feature a different topic with a different top five list, where any user could discuss and post their top 5 as well. So we'll see how it goes.....

Top Five Pure Boxers (Active fighters only)

    1.) Floyd Mayweather Jr.
    2.) Vernon Forrest
3.) Joe Calzaghe (Though some would say Calzaghe is a "switch hitter", I see him as a pure boxer at his fundamental core.)
    4.) Winky Wright
    5.) Juan Manuel Marquez

Feel free to post your thoughts and your own list.

Aside from Mayweather Jr I think there's nobody on this planet in the sport today who could do what Vernon can in terms of technical ability. Winky Wright and Joe Calzaghe are very close in terms of overall ability but Vernon is much more polished and complete IMO.

          2. Ivan Calderon
          3. Cory Spinks
          4. Winky/Vernon
          5. Winky/Vernon

Vernon can punch as well. Floyd and Calderon aren't great punchers. Calderon boxes defensively THE ENTIRE fight. Floyd can do the same. I think Spinks is more gifted than Winky and Vernon.

He's a great suggestion, as is Joan Guzman. However I felt it necessary to omit them due to a lack of the level of competition as my 5 have faced.

Good list. Honorable mention to Joan Guzman, Juan Diaz, Cory Spinks and Paul Malignaggi.
