Yes, legally, he does not need to defend against someone in his own weight division. But given his pfp#1 status, and claim to be the best to ever lace them up, do u think its a bit of a stretch for us fans to ask for him to face someone who is in the same division that he holds the titles to?

dont cherry pick some random fighter out of floyds career.... gatti is also better than a lot of fighters that cotto has faced earlier in his career as well.

yes theyve shared the same fighter... but that doesnt mean saying gomez > gatti should be a point at all...

gatti is a lot better than a lot of cottos previous opponents as well..

Honesty, i dont feel that he has earned the right to keep his WW title. Right now, he's calling himself the best WW in the world, without actually proving that he is. On top of that, he doesnt plan on proving it. Call me a hater all u want, but i feel he should be stripped if his next opponent isnt a top WW.

I feel Cotto's resume is pretty solid. He might have not fought "big names", but mostly all were either champions or undefeated.

see thats your personal opinion... not the rules of boxing... he legally is defending his title, and should not be stripped.. end of story...

and floyd never says hes the best welterweight, he says hes the best fighter... and thats due to, resume, undefeated, longevity, and domination.

Yeah right. Cotto is the first world champion ever to line up a soft title defense. It's not like Ray Leonard would ever defend against Bruce Finch, George Foreman would ever defend against Joe Roman, or Ali would defend against Richard Dunn. Oh wait...they did.
