klitschko is a polarizing figure on this board, people either love him or love to hate him

those who love to hate him constantly reinforce that stigma because quite honestly its the only real criticism they can level on him without outing themselves as idiots.

i can't disagree, people take better shots than others, but if anyone gets hit right they're done.. and about peter, i agree, especially at heavyweight if u get hit right, u're going down, and maybe out

i think tyson was a good example of that. when he lost to douglas he was getting drilled all ****in night. fainally a 3 shot combo with everything buster had on every shot and his whole body behind the final left put mike down and out. youd be nuts if you said that was an indictment of tysons chin. the fact that he somehow got to his feet was superhuman, the average person wouldve been comatose from those shots.

I think theres two different types of fighters, ones who have gotten hit with a punch hard enough to knock them down... and ones who havent.

Obviously some fighters can take a harder hit than others. I understand this. Im sure Carlos Baldomir can take a harder punch than the late Diego Corrales, even with the weight differential.

Take Sam Peter for instance, all the sudden his chin has been exposed? Just because hes been knocked down, he cant take a punch now?

Or like Carlos Baldomir... Were almost made to believe there isnt a welterweight out there who can put him on the canvas. Or is it, he just hasnt been hit with one of those perfect shots yet.

Everyones human... if you get hit on the right spot, right on the jaw line, with the right power... its almost like a short circuit... its doesnt really matter how much heart you have, it literally will short circuit your legs... I think theres those fighters who HAVE been hit like that, and those that haven't.

Cotto comes to mind in this particular subject for me. Hes shown he can definitely take a punch, from Zab Judah, and Shane Mosley.. two hard hitting WW's, but has been on the canvas before... does that mean he has a glass chin? or that he was just hit with one of those perfect punches.

I think everyone has a "glass" chin to a certain extent... They just haven't been hit right yet. Your take?

Side Note to those that know me: This wasnt based on Roy... it was based on the below comment.

This isnt a low blow to Ballistic either.

...good topic...chins are like punches, some have good chins, some have good punches...but what you aren't touching on is "heart"...a fighter with a glass chin AND big heart will get up after getting knocked down (Klitchko) and still win...a fighter with a granite jaw and no heart won't (Buster Douglas)...it's rare when to find a fighter that has all 3 attributes (Marciano, Holyfield & Hagler)...

This is a pretty good thread, interesting topic...."BUT"

Cotto hasn't been to the canvas since moving to 147. Which means....weight drained at 140 = easy knock downs. If someone has a weak chin, they DO NOT come from behind and score KO's!

Felix Trinidad got knocked down in 80% of his fights. Weak chin??? don't think so.

...good point...he might be stronger and feel better at 147, but he still has the same jaw...the extra weight doesn't go into your chin...

yes but being weight drained aka dehydrated takes away some of your bodys ability to absorb impact.

...true...but that's just to make weight at the weigh in, after that they have 24 hours to recover...depending on the weight class, some fighters gain back 20+ pounds of fluid before they step in the ring...with the same chin they had before...if a fighter has the heart of a champion, he will have the same "chin" going up 1 or 2 weight classes...if the fighter is known for having a good chin...if the fighter has a weak chin, he'll have the same chin if he goes up in weight...he might appear to have a better chin because he's feeling stronger or better, but he's got the same chin, regardless...and some guys have good chins until they move up a weight class or 2...depends on thier heart...Mosley is the primes example of a fighter that goes up in weight and still takes a good shot...which is why he's one of my favorite fighters...he's up there with Holyfield...

I dissagree, some might have been KO'd sone might not. Look at the shot that Frazier landed on Ali. That left hook was classic and text book landed by a man that could KO a horse and Ali got right up.

It has to do with heart, natural chin and mind over matter. Some fighters refuse to go down, like Jake Lamotta, JCC, Ali............legends in the game.
