Well, I think its the people and the fans who place fighters where they are... I think theres a lot of people who agree with you, me included... theres a lot of fighters who have and never will be even "mentioned" as an all time great... roy isnt one of them. To those that say he didnt beat anyone, the fact he went from middleweight to heavyweight and back down... says enough in and of itself...

But this thread really isnt about Roy.

Carlos has been knocked out once. In an interview he said he got caught coming in with a straight right, and fell back and hit his head on the canvas. Fighters chins do improve though ,as Ultimateboxa will agree. Look at Mundine, went from getting knocked out by Ottke (light hitter) to taking flush shots from Green (a fight that Mundine won easily). Baldomir clearly has a better chin now then he did then, because Forrest, Gatti, Mayweather and Judah all hit him with hard punches.

BTW, Baldomir avenged his lone KO loss by dominating Paulo Alejandro Sanchez in 2002. The KO came in 1994.

The glass chin thing always brings the Corrie Sanders v. Wladimir fight to my mind. He dropped like a rock.

yeah, like i said, i think its all about the right punch in the right spot with the right power...

like arturo and mickey ward... arturro was getting pummeled... but they just werent hard enough on the right spots to actually knock him down...

I think theres two different types of fighters, ones who have gotten hit with a punch hard enough to knock them down... and ones who havent.

Obviously some fighters can take a harder hit than others. I understand this. Im sure Carlos Baldomir can take a harder punch than the late Diego Corrales, even with the weight differential.

Take Sam Peter for instance, all the sudden his chin has been exposed? Just because hes been knocked down, he cant take a punch now?

Or like Carlos Baldomir... Were almost made to believe there isnt a welterweight out there who can put him on the canvas. Or is it, he just hasnt been hit with one of those perfect shots yet.

Everyones human... if you get hit on the right spot, right on the jaw line, with the right power... its almost like a short circuit... its doesnt really matter how much heart you have, it literally will short circuit your legs... I think theres those fighters who HAVE been hit like that, and those that haven't.

Cotto comes to mind in this particular subject for me. Hes shown he can definitely take a punch, from Zab Judah, and Shane Mosley.. two hard hitting WW's, but has been on the canvas before... does that mean he has a glass chin? or that he was just hit with one of those perfect punches.

I think everyone has a "glass" chin to a certain extent... They just haven't been hit right yet. Your take?

Side Note to those that know me: This wasnt based on Roy... it was based on the below comment.

This isnt a low blow to Ballistic either.

Yes and No. The reason you hear that a fighter's chin has been "exposed" is because up unitil that fight he's never really been hit. Roy is actually a great example, he went so long without being really hit that no one knew what would happen when he did get hit.

Antonio Tarver I think showed that Roy doesn't have a good chin and his speed and boxing ability has carried him throught his career. You can see that Roy isn't as ready to mix it up as he once was and I'm sure the Tarver KO comes to him from time to time.

Some fighter's are just born with incredibly hard heads, it's just the way it is. There was an actual study one time that compaired the different races and one of the conclusions was that people that decended from the Asian continent have thicker skulls, no bull****. That's why anthropologist can dig up some bones and tell you the race and gender almost immediatly.

I think heart does play a part in it as well. If you are timid and don't like to get hit, it will affect you because you are "scared" of getting ko'd. Just like when a martial artist screams before he hits the board it gives him more power, the same goes if you are scared or timid it will affect you physicaly.

The mind has alot more to do with it than you think, it's not just about physics.

...but I do think Arturro's ability to stand up to a punch is better than most.
