..Are British Fans Rude?...

Americans have boo'd the Canadian Anthem, and vice versa, I really don't see the big deal about anthem booing. It's all in the heat of competition, it's good fun.Comment

I wouldnt agree that it is all in good fun, but I have an important point that needs to be made.
For a country such as America, whose people take great pride in their flag and their anthem, to complain about their anthem booed is more than fair. For the same people (you remember the ones, the ones who are likely to shoot you if you say their anthem is ****) to boo another countries anthem, whilst knowing how important their own is to them, is unforgivable. And the threadstarter asked if British people are rude.......

Then I have 3 words for you:I wouldnt agree that it is all in good fun, but I have an important point that needs to be made.

Overly sensitive nationalist.
And you will remain so until the day I see brits burning U.S. flags outside of Buckingham palace out of pure hatred. Until then, rival countries booing an anthem in the spirit of competition nothing to get upset over. Just accept it for what it is.Last edited by deliveryman; 01-27-2008, 01:07 PM.Comment

The whole point is to get you upset, and riled up.
But the fact that you're still throwing a hissy fit over it 2 months later is ****ing sad.Comment

America is by far the most patriotic country, so when they boo anthems its a little hypocritical, is all I am saying. Im not particularly bothered about the anthem booing, I'd rather it didnt happen but I'm not gunna make a fuss when it does. Which funnily enough is exactly the same thing I have been saying ever since it happened at Hatton Mayweather. I am not American either btw, as I get the impression you seem to think I am bitching about the booing of my anthem.Comment

The singing and chanting of British fans is related to the Football terraces, we have the Barmy Army with cricket, who cheer and sing for all five days of a test match, even when they are getting whupped.
Football is where the real violence use to be, but it has gradually declined with better policing. Put us Brits and beer together and you will get a bit of rowdyness, but nothing like what used to go on on the terracesComment

If ti doesn't mean much, they wouldn't cheer theirs, and boo another. They'd be silent for both, correct? That would truly mean not caring. They, could have just sang that ****** Hatton song the whole time. They actually went "out of their way" to boo it. I don't really care, but it's rude.I wouldnt read too much into the booing of national anthemns. We simply dont care about them that much over here, in the same way as we dont care about flags. Its just pantomime booing. I think its odd that you lot put so much attention and respect into a flag and an anthemn.
I'm sure not all fans are like that. But to act as if it's a completely innocent act is insane.Comment
