    ..Are British Fans Rude?...

I was reading the new issue of The Ring Magazine, and I got to thinking of some of the outrageous things that SOME British fans have done.

    - Recently, they booed the singing of the American National anthem.. In America.

    - Giving Marvin Hagler less than a minute to celebrate the winning of his middleweight crown before throwing bottles and garbage at "Marvelous" and the ring.

    - Apparently, in Birmingham two years ago, they celebrated the return of a major fight in their city after a 12-year absent, due to rioting. They rioted that night.

I'm sure you can make a claim that all fans have their bad moments or their bad nights. I'd agree with you about any country having those kinds of things happening. However, I'm simply asking the question.. Are British fans a "ruder" bunch then the average group of boxing fans?

This is not to bash the British, it's just a simple question. If you don't think so, you can just say "No, they are not."

I think being an excessive fan is the problem here no matter where you are from.. if you go to far your nuts. Also I think people today are just more selfish/rude & more disrespectful than ever which is a contributing factor.

I think most fans are "ruder" nowadays. Anywhere you go, personally. I raised to question though, because I thought it might be interesting.

I think a lot of it might have to do with consuming so much liquor before/during/after the fight. (In terms of the National Anthem thing)

I don't know. I don't think it really matters unless violence is involved and I would have to say that there are many places which have greater problems with violence at sporting events than Britain.

Yeah the drinking, HBO recently ran a story on Real Sports about excessive drinking at NFL football games. Parents are reluctant to bring children due to the rowdy/lude/violent behavior of the intoxicated fans..

You could make the argument that worse VIOLENT things have happened, in other places. But, I was just mentioning rude, for the sake of being rude. I'm rude sometimes, I'm fine with it. I was just wondering about some peoples opinions.

Very valid point. At this point of my life, I'm an adult, I feel fine with it. So, going to a game with a bunch of drunks is actually pretty funny. But, with kids around, I could see that being a pretty messed up envirornment.
