I could care less if there was or was not a 'Great Black Hope' or whatever...

but this Kevin Johnson fellow doesnt look horrible...Im not exactly putting a lot of stock in him, and his KO ratio is pretty bad, but he is an active fighter, looks like he has some tools to get better with some more experience. and looking at his record, he actually went to a draw with Timor Ibragmov in only his 3rd fight...Timur was 13-0. not amazing, but notable.
he better work his ass off and get better quick if hes going to do anything at all though.

and, of course, Tony Thompson. Im not going to defend him to the death because most people wont listen anyway, but when he gets his chance, he will show how good he is. unless its against Wlad, haha.

All of the great American heavyweight athletes of our era are playing footboot or basketball. It's safer and alot more lucrative than boxing. In other words do not look forward to seeing any great American heavyweights.

its less excuses and more explanations. If most the big sized atheletes grow up trying to be a basketball or football player, theyre not going to end up as boxers.

If boxing is a part of a country's culture, theyre going to turn out better fighters. Like Mexico. makes sense, right? Boxing isnt as big a part of American culture as it once was, and so theres not a lot of priority for the big guys to go into it as opposed to other sports that pay more.
plus, because football and basketball are team sports, in theory they have a better chance of making lots of money, because really only the top 20 or so heavyweights make tons of cash, while the others have decent salaries.

basketball and football also are a way to get noticed and accepted at a good college...colleges dont really care about if youre a boxer or not. not to mention that schools have basketball and football teams, no boxing teams or anything.
so basically, the naturally big athletes in America dont have a lot of incentive to go into boxing.

Your an idiot!!!!! Boxing is the bottom of the barrell type of sport that does not offer the same level of financial stability and profit as basketball and football for a young athlete. On top of that, within the past 15 years many boxing gyms have closed down nationwide. I live in NYC and I know of at least 5 boxing gyms that no longer exist. Now shut the hell up and go back to your job of sucking on Wlads you know what.

Compare the current athletes that were going into boxing with the ones now. Go over the history of the sport, economics, sociology, etc.

Boxing gyms used to be many to a city prior to World War II. After the War, many were sick of fighting so they avoided sports like boxing. Along with that, the Economy of the USA boosted, allowing for other job opportunites (which is all people wanted, opportunity to make a decent living), along with other opportunities provided by the Government through the G.I. bill that allowed soldiers to go to College.

Boxing Gyms started to decline; however, we still had enough gyms and enough talent out there to keep it alive. Football was alive, but it wasn't nearly as popular yet. Boxing and Baseball were still the big sports. As TV started to explode, and the Football leagues joined forces, the same with basketball, with "blacks" being aloud to participate in all sports, with scholarships being handed out in these sports, Boxing saw another drop. Young Athletes figured, just in case they couldn't become pro, at least they had a free ride to college/education. Boxing, provides none of that.

Opportunities change, culture changes, incline of things and the decline of others.
