I would give Hopkins credit for beating Winky at 160. Winky arguably beat the man Hopkins couldn't. At 170, Winky just doesn't carry the weight well.

Hopkins and Joe have been in with about the same quality opponents.

Roys Jones average opponent has 26 wins and 5 losses.
Mayweather's average competition when he defended his 130 title was 35-2-1, and I don't find it particular great other than Corrales and two good fighters in Genaro Hernandez and Jesus Chavez.

Look Smokin', I already said that his resume is bad, and I have also said that it really isn't his fault. This is not a criticism of what he did, but it is a criticism of those who say he is the best MW of all-time, because when compared to other eras, Hopkins's middleweights on his resume just aren't that good.

Same reason Tyson is not the best heavyweight of all time (at least part of it).

HJe def doesn't have the best MW resume of all-time, lol. I give him credit for jumping up 2 weight divisions and beating the 31 guy at LHW.

Yeah but Tyson lost...and lost...and lost some more (getting knocked out a couple times or quitting). Hopkins defended his belts for a decade, beating everyone in his path. I see your point though.

Hell yeah, the Tarver win is by far his best win.

The main problem I have with Hopkins is that he really did lose to the best two fighters he fought... the argument can be made that Taylor only became one of the best because he beat Hopkins. But he did lose to Jones Jr. and Taylor. You know?

The weird thing is that usually people knock the Tarver win and applaud his middleweight record.

                      Exactly, doesn't make much sense.
