Proof that Hopkins's resume at middleweight is pathetic...

When he coming in to the ring against Oscar De La Hoya, HBO showed their graphic for notable wins on his record.

    Notable Wins
    Felix Trinidad TKO12
    Robert TKO7, NC4, W12

Most fighters get three slots for their notable wins.

Most fighters have names on the notable wins that everyone would recognize.

    Who is Robert Allen again?

Then to round out his middleweight record, he beats 130 pounder De La Hoya, B level Eastman (who lost to Joppy), and then dropped 2 to Taylor.

    Sweet.

No one ever gives love to Carlos Monzon... that said, I don't know anything about him... it just seems odd to me that the guy who previously had the record for most defenses is never mentioned as the best middleweight ever. I've also heard the name Robinson for best MW ever.

Johnson was pretty green... I saw the fight, and was impressed by Hopkins.

I also saw Antwun Echols being pretty damn competitive in those fights.

Monzon was in a league of his own, Monzon would have killed these dudes nowadays, he defended and set a record that hasn't been broken up to date and that is defending the UNDISPUTED Middleweight Championship 14 times, not just a piece of the pie but the whole pie, not 9 or 10 defenses where only 1 major title was up but counting from the 1st defense to the 14th defense the UNDISPUTED title, Hopkins hasn't done that.. when Monzon was around you had killers man true punchers that would rock your face in, Sugar Ray well I don't think anyone can debate him but nobody can forget Monzon that **** just wouldn't be fair.. Hopkins is a dirty fighter, a straight up cheater, he low blowed his way into the finals of the Middleweight tournament to even face Trinidad then punches and pushes Tito all night, it's like everytime this ******* has a chance to cement some sort of greatness he cheats and throws it all away. who can deny against Winky he cheated the **** out of him? he ain't no greatest Middleweight, he ain't even a top all time Middleweight he just knows how to cheat.. I will say though there are guys he beat without cheating, guys he did his thing with but he flawed his **** up so much it's almost impossible for me to credit him about winning one fight good when theres 3 others that he cheated for a win, thats not the way this sport works, when you rely on cheating to better your chances of winning you threw..

Monzon lost 3 out of his first 20 fights and then went unbeaten for his last
              80 fights.

Monzon Hagler would have been great. Monzon was a great champion, but his out of the ring personality left alot to be desired - if you were doing a top ten wife beaters poll, he'd come near the top. How his wife could have survived a beating off of him is unbelievable

Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest middleweight. We idolise Turpin (who was a very good fighter) for handing him a defeat, but if you analyse how many fights Robinson had had leading up to the bout and his lack of preparation, its not suprising. He destroyed Turpin in the rematch with a TKO in the tenth (Turpin did win the commonwealth LH title afterwards, but commited suicide as he could cope with the obscurity after his career)
