Mayweather's waiting to fight these prime WW once he gets old enough to use his age as an excuse for his first loss!!!!! I can hear it now I lost when I was 32 for the first time in my career, I beat DLH twice, Hatton, Judah, Gatti and a bunch more guys and noone could beat me until my skills diminished, this guys is a disgrace to boxing and his fans need to wake up. I was a Floyd fan when he first came into boxing, I was talking bout Floyd when people were talking bout Mosley and Jones Jr but dude has changed so much in his career just ask his dad!!!!

I agree this is a pointless fight, considering that Cotto has build a name for himself and is very deserving of a shot at Floyd, but financially i dont think anybody including Cotto(assuming Cotto had already beat Oscar) would pass up a rematch with Oscar, hes just a big money attraction. I know that alot of times what we want as fans and what boxers actually do is very different and fustrating but its obvious Floyd is looking to make money and not fight for his legacy, so just be patient as a Cotto fight will happen more than likely next year...What im waiting for is what the people on this board will come out with next once Floyd beats Cotto?
I pretty much agree w/ your assessment. Everyone in boxing knows you'll make your biggest payday (probably ever) against de la hoya which is why everyone from hatton at 140 to forrest at 154 is calling him out or willing to fight him. Everybody's poppin' **** about floyd taking the rematch but cotto, margarito and every other major fighter at 147 has expressed interest in fighting oscar and it damn sure aint for the glory cause he's not even a top 10 p4p fighter anymore. It's for the guaranteed 8 fig spread & the exposure that you're sure to receive. Hell, Im not mad at floyd. Why pass up 20+ mil??..for what??..shiiiiiiit. Cotto's not going anywhere so long as he doesnt lose to any of the other up & coming welters like margarito, williams, cintron or clottey in the interim. He & arum seem to be playing it safe w/ the gomez fight but he's sure to take on one of those major players before 08 is over. If he keeps winning then '09 should see a mayweather vs cotto match up. Love it or hate it, mayweather is not only the most gifted fighter today but is fast becoming one of its most prestigious businessmen as well. If it makes dollars..it'll definitely make sense to him. As for his skills diminishing, I doubt he'll have that problem anytime before age 35 (which is another four yrs away). He doesnt drink or smoke, doesnt do drugs (like say sweet pea and many other gifted boxers of the past), his wgt doesnt fluctuate, he works out & trains whether he has a match or not & he's never taken a beating in the ring. Today's athletes are far more advanced which is why you have a brett farve or bernard hopkins performing at the highest levels well into their later 30s & early 40s. Hell, calzaghe is almost 36 and folks are saying he's arguably the 2nd best p4p fighter in boxing today..so dont think you'll be hearing mayweather use age as an excuse. I see him retiring for good before that happens.Last edited by Hitman88; 01-22-2008, 02:09 PM.Comment

I know that also thats why he always fights in New York because they allow him to wear 8 oz gloves. But it might happen in Vegas for monitary reasons. Just like PBF gave up all that stuff for a fight with De la Hoya for the money. Cotto will at least give it a considerable amount of thought if he wants a fight for the most money and a fight that will have a HUGE impact on his legacy. Cotto will take the fight in Vegas because Cotto is not in the drivers seat as far negotiating with PBF.Last edited by tredh; 01-22-2008, 02:07 PM.Comment

I guess it'll come down to what makes more buisness sense. Floyd alone is far from a draw, and Cotto isnt that big a draw on the west coast/Vegas. The MGM probably see's this as a risky investment. MSG would jump all over the opportunity to host this fight. Its a guaranteed packed house with Cotto vs Floyd.Comment

Even if he does take a dive, it is not an appealing trilogy! People want to see trilogy's like Pac/morales, Gatti/Ward, Marquez/Vasquez, etc..... Trilogy's where the fighters actually fight! Who the hell wants to see 36rounds of 2 guys playing cat and mouse?Comment

Cotto better call his ass out after every bout they have. Floyd will fight him when the time comes and I can't wait.Comment

Bull****, Why Margarito gets the big money fight after he lost and cotto and margarito have fights scheduled aswell. If anybody deserves the shot it aint margarito! So i agree with ur statement until u placed margarito in a spot where PW should go.That's a tough question I ain't trying to leave dude out but DAMN who in there right mind wants to fight him at WW!!!! I think Paul Williams is a bad dude in the ring but he already has a fight lined up and I think he is better off moving up in weight!!!! The only person I want to see fight Paul is a rematch with Margarito and go from there, but I would rather see Margartio/DLH and Mayweather/Cotto. Then maybe Williams beats Quintana then fights Cintron then the winner of the litttle WW tourny style DLH/Marg and Mayweather/Cotto winner!!!!Comment
