It was in his Beyond the Glory documentary that he said he got the nickname because everything he was involved in turned to gold, which I took meant money but of course it could be because of the medal.

I'm pretty sure that Rid**** Bowe gave Andrew Golota his unofficial nickname "The Foul Pole", but I don't recall exactly why?

I'm pretty sure boxing writer Michael Katz gave Golota that nickname. At least he claims that he did.

I thought Golata was "The White Buffalo"? ...which is pretty obvious why he would be called that. I like "The Foul Pole" better.

Hagler legally changed his name from Marvin to Marvelous because the announcers wouldn't announce him by his nickname. He changed it so they HAD to announce him as Marvelous.

I love the story behind marvins nicknamed. I can't believe how ignorant the announceres were at this time. I mean if buffer can call floyd ,pretty boy floyd money mayweather lol he can say marvelous marvin hagler.

                    You're thinking of Frans Botha.
