Excellent post Boston. Thats what im getting at, He had two losses that could have gone either way and had never been stopped in the past, nor after his fight with Tyson.Comment

The Duran fight was 7 months after an impressive 15 rd performance against Marvin Hagler. And he was still only 32, not prime but definitely near it.
The Holmes fight was almost 2 years after back to back losses to a light heavyweight that weighed under 200 lbs the first fight. And Holmes was 37 and the heaviest he had ever been in the ring at that point.
No comparison ........... at all.Comment

Yea I know, but what I was trying to say is, Tyson should get credit for KOing Holmes to some extent, but like I said, he had been inactive for a long time, fought Tyson right away with no tuneup, and that can take a toll on a fighter. You can really make an argument for either side.Comment

It's a solid win on Tyson's record but not a great win. Holmes was coming back after two losses to Michael Spinks of all people and years of inactivity.
When he came back later he had been training more and fought more before he took on top contenders. If Holmes had fought a few cans and a few contenders before taking on Tyson he would've done a lot better.
Tyson's best wins were over Ruddock and Tucker, those were two prime top contenders. Spinks and Holmes were solid wins but not his best.Comment

As I said I was laughing at the fact that the poster thought Duran was in his Prime, its just makes you think how old are the average posters around here. Hearns always had the style to beat him, It was just pissing me off that new boxing fans that just know fighters by their names and say whatever they feel like. The Duran fight was 7 months after an impressive 15 rd performance against Marvin Hagler. And he was still only 32, not prime but definitely near it.

What difference does 2 pounds make can I ask? Holmes before the Tyson fight was at an average of 223 lbs. He was Fat and out of shape if you boxrec your way through...Back to back loses to one of the greatest light heavyweights in Michael Spinks, fights that could have gone either way Holmes was robbed in the first fight and the second fight could have gone either way
The point is Duran was stopped before the Hearns fight but Holmes was never stopped before that fight, neither stopped after the fight with Tyson.Comment

He was fat and out of shape because I saw the fight and saw the big roll of fat on his belly, dude. And Holmes was at his best at around 215 - 220, but he had clearly lost muscle mass in the Tyson fight and replaced it with fat.Comment

So you count No Mas as a stoppage win (comparable to the Hearns fight)? Duran had never been knocked out and no one had even come close to stopping him with punches, not Hagler nor Leonard.
I'm starting to think you are the one boxrecing your way through.
Just joking but come on.
Also when you lose to a friggin' LHW you are DONE. No matter how close the fights were, Holmes in his prime would've knocked Spinks out.Comment
