Seeing as how Cotto isn't even a sure HOFer, let alone a SRR, how would a win over him solidify anyone's career or PROVE that they are better than Robinson was? LOL, I see your point though, people who simply would like to see them fight, over hype it as if it's Floyd's last hurdle before greatness, as if he isn't already there with or without the relatively insignificant contender in question.

To be there with Robinson he would have to stay at 147 (or move to 140) and be the top dog for a few years, even slightly past his prime. That is not going to happen as Mayweather is not going to risk his health. But TWO reigns (130 and 147 would) do it.
hed have to do a little more than rule for a few years... as he only has 2 fights a year, which will most likely decline to one fight a year...

on the other hand... floyd doesnt beat joe
I knew this was a reply to me.

Do you see ANY fighter in history coming in under 150 and beating JC? JC is close to 180 on fight night, and he is second only to RJJ in that weight class (IMO)

Mind not the 160 pounds version of SRR, the 147 one!

if there was, floyd would be the only one... floyd speed would be equal to joes power... and i take speed over power all day... speed can hit and not get hit

im also not saying i think he could.... but floyd would be the best shot at under 150

The point is if he stays there and defends his title against the best, that's enough for me. clearly if he fights the Alfonso Gomez of these world, he would not make the cut.

I think the greatest thing that Floyd could do right now is that he takes a year off and lets Cotto establish himself as a GREAT or atleast a very good fighter.

Let Cotto beat Williams, Margarito, Cintron and DLH all those, or atleast some of them. If he can run through them all he should be regarded as the best, maybe even over Floyd.

Then Floyd will come back to defend his crown against another great fighter. If Floyd manages to win against Cotto (or whoever has come out on top), he will cement his legacy for sure.

I don't know. Too often these days you have to say "could he beat this guy" because fights are not made. Lets see it. Then we can say "well he definitely DIDN'T beat this guy".

I think Cotto will fight Margarito next (if Margarito gets through his next opponent which I heard will be Judah). That's a good start.

I see what you are saying that Floyd would be the best possibility but I am not thinking about the power, I am worried about Zag's workrate, skills, his speed, his southpaw stance. Remember the only punches Floyd seemed to be somewhat vulnerable to are looping shots from souhtpaws.

Bottom line... Those 30 extra pounds are very good pounds.
