They are both active fighters who were plying their trade in the 90's and here in the 00's.
They are both Multi weight champs with similar athletic abilities and speed in their arsenals.
Both have been accused of cherry picking.
They are both nearing the end of their careers.
Its not like they are 2 fighters from different times in History is it?
So I would say they could well be compared for those reasons alone.
If you don't then why comment?
Do you not see the similarities in their careers?

Regardless there were alot of other great fighters in many different weight classes especially early in his career, big heavyweight fights, welterweights fights with De La Hoya sort of dominated the scene. And Mayweather I dont know who he's beaten that makes him so great, if that fight with Hatton was fair and Hatton was allowed to win it could have been different.
This isn't about ANY OTHER FIGHTERS APART FROM FLOYD & ROY.

BECAUSE EVERYONE OF THOSE POINTS YOU MADE COULD BE ARGUED. I DON'T SEE THEM FROM THE SAME ERA, I DON'T SEE MAYWEATHER AT THE END OF HIS CAREER, AND I COULD SAY MUCHMORE, BUT IT WOULD BE SAYING MUCH OF WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN SAID. THIS THREAD BY THE WAY HAS BEEN MADE PLENTY OF TIMES IN THE PAST, SAME QUESTIONS AND SAME ANSWERS, MOSTLY AMOUNTED TO THE SAME ARGUMENTS.

What is 'our era' really? It's basicely the 2000s. Roy Jones was great all the way back in the 90s. His downfall was around the early 2000s, after Ruiz. That's around the time when PBF was starting to do his thing, and right after Roy was done as the greatest fighter in the sport, Floyd took that title over and will probably finish out around 08/09.

So i'd say Roy was the best of the 90s, Floyd the best of the 2000s. Or to be more specific: Roy early/mid 90s to early 2000s, Floyd early 2000s to late 2000s.

Roy Jones Jr. is, pound for pound, the better fighter - but Mayweather has the POTENTIAL to become greater.

Simple. I find it hilarious that some belittle Roy's victories over Toney and Hopkins while propping up the likes of Corrales and Castillo (Floyd's best wins) and two guys who are levels WAY below Roy's two best wins. Furthermore, the rest of Roy's resume trumps Floyd's - and rightfully so since he's had a longer career. But until it's all said and done, we don't know. For now, it's Roy...and it ain't close.

Very Very good don't get me wrong but RJJ was in a completely different league in his prime compared to any fighter of the past 15 years
Mayweather is a gifted fighter, but the man is nothing more than a coward protecting a padded record. Roy Jones fought the best available competition, but unfortunately didn't have many big names to fight once he went to 175. Mayweather has had big fights available to him and from 140-147 he has ducked any real challenge. Mayweather will be remembered as a ducker and a dodger, so Jones has to be considered a better fighter.

i agree... to an extent... i think he fought the best at middle in hop and th ebest at super in toney and he got to 175 and there just was nobody there... and if there was, it wasnt even close to roys abilities... he truly made em look like nobody.... but floyd has definitely had an illustrous career... id say roy still.... but floyd has the time and ability to become greater.... i just hope he takes advantage of it
