Disagree that Mayweather will be seen as a ducker - don't forget Roy was seen as one too. Still, Roy's resume trumps his--I've gotta assume that a lot of cats on here either haven't been following boxing that long or are just plain kids. To say Floyd has a better resume is almost absurd.

Furthermore, the rest of Roy's resume trumps Floyd's - and rightfully so since he's had a longer career. But until it's all said and done, we don't know. For now, it's Roy...and it ain't close.
      Agreed.

And not to mention people are really fast to call the guys Roy fought, bums.

That's ****ing ridiculous. Because as stated guys like Harding, Woods, Gonzalez, Kelly, and Hill are not bums and they can't be sliced as thus.

Im pretty sure a lot of the posters saying this are either young, not too knowledgable or just weren't following boxing at the time. I mean...Jones beat NINETEEN past or present world champs. NINETEEN. Bums? LOL.

Jones a waste of talent? LOL. Yeah, ten years atop the pound for pound rankings, 8 world titles, 18 title defenses, and four division championships. Right...

Mayweather made his bones beating Corrales. Jones made his defeating Toney. Toney>>>Corrales.

Really, I could go on but I think the more knowledgable posters know better.

Mayweather has had big fights available to him and from 140-147 he has ducked any real challenge. Mayweather will be remembered as a ducker and a dodger, so Jones has to be considered a better fighter.
I kind of think though that when Jones was in his heyday that much like today alot of the best competition at 175 and 168, where he spent much of his time was based in Europe. Not just the European guys but Virgil Hill and alot other prominents at that time were always fighting over there. He had everything doing for him in the US with the big HBO contract and everything so I dont blame him for not ever wanting to leave but he was never able to mix it up with the best of the division because of this.

Mayweather and Jones are kind of similar styled fighters, they overmatch guys with speed, both are a little cautious, defensive minded. Jones had alot more knockout ability. I dont like to talk about Floyd Mayweather being great at anything because what has he done to merit that?

This may be true but after months of posturing between Jones and Michalchewski, HBO intervened - flying Klaus Peter-Kohl to NY to set up a potential Jones-Michalchewski superbout. Don't forget that HBO was NOT pleased with Jones at the time. Nevertheless, after two days of negotiations, HBO realized what Roy already knew...the fight wasn't ever gonna take place.

I'm not sure who the other European contenders were. Graciano Rochigianni?? He and Jones agreed to fight until drunkard Rochigianni pulled a no-show at the presser and then disappeared days afterwards. Needless to say, HBO was not putting up the bucks for that.

all those guys juyjuy talks about. I dont want to get into them, I just think it would have been better mixing it up with those guys than the David Telesco's and some of the others because for a while there it wasn't the greatest opposition and there was a pretty good circuit going in Europe at the time.
