Really?
I remember when they were talking about when Rampage knocked out Chuck, it was because of those wide slow punches Chuck throws. Rampage was also learning from a boxer to strike like a boxer, which is also why Martial Artists learned from boxers and ditched their way of throwing punches. You throw wide, you get tagged and cannot block a kick either.
You have to stand different from a boxer, but you don't have to strike different.

Not really chuck just got caught, just like a boxer gets caught and gets ko'd. its true mma fighters do learn techniques from boxers but you have to look at the differences like in the gloves for example and all the other stuff. its like everybody's saying about mayweather going into mma, he's an excellent boxer that knows how to throw a punch properly but cmon that **** ain't gonna work for you in mma.Really?

He has been taking pointers from Shane Mosley recently but I'm not sure you can evaluate their boxing skills in the same way you would a conventional boxing match.Quinton has lousy boxing skills also but he is very well-versed in all other areas. He was actually a good kickboxer so people are scared to kick with him because he has skills in that area also. Only lately has he really worked on his hands.
I mean, dude he threw a right hook from and orthodox stance.
This guy aint a very good boxer.
I thought the UFC was thoroughly entertaining the other night but I still prefer boxing.Comment

If you want to see some prettier striking in MMA watch Anderson Silva's fights rather than Liddell's and Wanderlei's who are both known as sluggers.
Kind of like looking for boxing technique in a Ricardo Mayorga fight.

4 oz gloves should allow for harder hits, even if you don't want to throw full force into the punch. It's not like it was before when they wore no gloves and you had to throw with a hammer strike and not with your knuckels hitting. Not really chuck just got caught, just like a boxer gets caught and gets ko'd. its true mma fighters do learn techniques from boxers but you have to look at the differences like in the gloves for example and all the other stuff. its like everybody's saying about mayweather going into mma, he's an excellent boxer that knows how to throw a punch properly but cmon that **** ain't gonna work for you in mma.

Even when Tyson threw looping shots, they weren't as wide (nor slow) as Chucks and Tyson could get his hand back in quick fashion.
The Kickboxers are the better punchers for sure.
It must be like learning how to throw a baseball properly. Boxers have been doing it for so long it's beautiful looking, although not everybody: Mayorga isn't a good example of a perfect puncher.
Floyd's style is the problem and it's true, it's not going to work in MMA.
10 years from now, MMA might have some Hybrid type fighters to make everything look nice.
Thanks for the name in your Avatar. It's the first thing my eye catches when I see your post and everytime I'm like "damn, she is nice."Comment

Let me break it down for you guys.
Mixed Martial Arts fighters can't box like boxers do. It simply does not work in MMA. MMA fighters have to look out for elbows, takedowns, clinches, standing chokes, kicks and a variety of other things that can happen.
Boxing does not teach you how to defend against any of this. It is true that some MMA fighters train with boxers and boxing coaches, but thats to learn how to throw the punch, not use the defense.
This causes MMA fighters striking, in some cases to look sloppy, when in reality it's how they HAVE to fight. They don't have much of a choice.
Comparing the two sports is pretty ******. If an MMA fighter went into Mixed Martial Arts and started using boxing defense and footwork, they would be dominated. I would not want to see some guy pop in there with the philly shell, get thai clinched and kneed into another demension.
The top MMA fighters are all world class athletes. Just like the top boxers are. At the end of the day they are much different sports, that use different types of strikes and need different types of defense.
MMA fans have learned this, some boxing have as well. I can't wait for the day when both can get along and respect eachothers sports.
If you guys want to see the next generation of MMA fighter. Just go look at GSP.
He is almost a black belt in BJJ, Black belt in TKD, black belt in Kyokushin(started at age six) Karate, trains WBA light-middleweight world champion Joachim Alcine and goes 8 5 minute rounds with him. trains Judo and does Muay Thai with phil nurse. He also trains with the Canadian Olympic wrestling team and was going to try out (and from the sounds of it make it to) for the Olympics this year, but took the fight with Hughes instead. Also understand the Olympics for wrestlers is not like for boxers. The best wrestlers alive go to the Olympics.
Also, The Silva Vs Chuck fight was not one of the best fights ever. It was only one of the best to uneducated fans. It was entertaining, but I have seen better.
If boxing fans actually learned about grappling, they would enjoy MMA much more. Grappling is probably the most complicated aspect of any sport on earth today. Becoming a black belt can take many years of dedication, and you have to learn phonebooks worth of information.
When I hear boxing or sport fans say "they are just hugging on the ground" it makes me laugh. Why? simple, it shows how completely and utterly idiotic they are. It's like watching people play chess and saying "They are just moving little pieces of plastic around", or watching football and saying "they are just throwing a weird shaped ball at eachother".Last edited by Trax416; 01-02-2008, 08:02 PM.Comment

Excuse me but I never said boxing techniques doesn't work in real fighting. Please do not put words that I have not said.I tell it like it is. Your saying that boxing technique doesn't work in real fighting which is completely untrue. Taking words from Joe Rogan who thinks UFC is the sport of fighting, yet the same punches you use with gloves can be used without them and are as or even more effective. How is a wide looping punch more effective then a clean short and straight one? How is throwing the same thing over and over repeatedly more effective then throwing a variety of punches?
You are exhibiting exactly what I was thinking it will happen -the Boxing Vs MMA type of thread. You really tried to mask it by but in the end it becomes so obvious.Comment
