Since when was castillo the number one fighter at 140? Please we need boxing fan to reply to this question not a hatton blinded fan.
Castillo was ranked as number one contender by the Ring magazine and by most other boxing sources based on his standing at lightweight. At the time Hatton fought Castillo defending the Ring title (because the IBO was a technicality to provide a sanctioning body and allow it to be called a title fight) he was defending against the number one challenger. Witter, fittingly, was number two.

Witter has a great opportunity now to get his shot at Hatton. Hatton has suffered his first loss, dropped back down in weight, and is looking to unify. If Witter plays his cards right he could find himself in the ring with Hatton in 2008. I don't see why it is that much of a big deal that Hatton fight Witter RIGHT NOW, unless you're looking for ways to further discredit Ricky Hatton (which of course "RayCorey" and "Doris Dominopizza" have been doing for some time now). Witter should be trying for the Hatton fight now, but Hatton has options (Gavin Rees, Ricardo Torres, Paul Malignaggi and Junior Witter). In terms of what the fighters give to Hatton, Malignaggi makes the best choice from a business standpoint because they can make the fight at MSG. Torres would provide an option for Hatton to fight in Vegas again. Witter doesn't give significantly more than Rees in this situation apart from holding a belt that Hatton hasn't yet won (WBC).

I'm willing to concede that Witter could be the biggest threat at Jr Welterweight, and another factor is that Ricky probably won't look good in beating him because Witter is awkward. So coming off a KO loss, the first loss of his career, and fighting a tricky and unconventional southpaw (who you hate) is not the most practical path to follow.

My preferred course of action would be a fight in Manchester against Rees, a fight at the Gardens against Paulie and maybe a fight with Witter by the end of the year.

Am not trying to discredit hatton..Just stating facts about the Man people like you regard as god who cant do no wrong, castillo has and was never the number one at 140 he only had one fight there so i dont rate him over Witter at 140, Hatton can fight anyone he wants but he is a coward for ducking Witter who is and has been the only fighter around at 140 at the top for the last 4 to 5 years, Not gavin rees or Paulie,Torres.

Somebody once told me that Hatton didn't care about the money.
            Not saying it was you.

But "I don't want to give him a payday" is an awful excuse.

How can it be alright that Hatton chooses who he wants to give a payday, while at the same time it is called ducking when Floyd does the same?
(Still not talking about you in particular, only the viewpoint)
Because Hatton can bring enough excitement to generate over 2 million PPV buys in the States and UK combined and sell out any stadium. If Witter could offer the type of payday that Hatton did for Floyd, the he could dictate who he fights.

Witter is a nobody who looks worse than Froch calling out Calzaghe and also accusing him of ducking.

You've invested a considerable amount of energy into discrediting Hatton, why should I think that your input into this topic is any different?

Witter did not crack the top ten at 140 lbs until about two years ago, he hasn't been in the top ten for 4 - 5 years. Vivian Harris and Lovemore N'Dou have been in the top ten at 140 for longer, does that make them viable opposition for Hatton?

And Castillo was ranked at number one by the Ring when he moved up to 140 lbs. Also he had two fights at Junior Welter before he faced Hatton.

As for the "coward" comment: How many fights do you have, Chief?

Ten fights mate, My last fight was two days ago..Anymore questions? Witter has been in the top ten for 5 years now. Urango and Maussa must be top notch opponents at 140 for them to get to fight Hatton .

Hatton is a coward until he fights the really number one guy at 140.period.

If Witter can't fight Hatton, he might as well try to get a fight with Paul Malignaggi or Gavin Rees. If Witter beats any of those guys then Hatton has no choice but to give Witter the fight he wants.
