It was testament to JCC will to win. Taylor had his chance in a rematch as well.

Im done arguing about this bout. The banter surrounding whether it was a good stoppage or not is cyclical and I don't see it changing anytime soon. That being said his was a DAMN good fight.Comment

Anyone who buys into Steele's bull**** about protecting the fighter should watch the first Barkley-Hearns fight. After a devastating knockdown Hearns barely gets up, Steele doesn't even give him a second look and of course Hearns falls apart seconds later. What happened to Steele having to get his questions answered then? Yeah, not so important when he is protecting the house fighter. Watch this fight if you don't believe me.
Steele knew there were only seconds left because the 10 second warning lights were lit up. He neglected to make sure Chavez was in a neutral corner (he wasn't). With a couple of seconds left and Chavez not in the neutral corner, there was no chance of Meldrick being hit again. If you don't believe me, watch the tape. Steele was protecting Don King's fighter that night and he stole that fight from a deserving Meldrick Taylor. Don't believe all the bull**** about his questions not being answered or it not mattering how much time was left.Comment

Well taylor was very beat up but he was winning the fight because of the amount of punches he was throwing.
He went out the way he wanted to being a fighter and giving more then he should of if he had just relaxed a little bit in the last round he would of won but i think his coach told him he needed the round.Comment

Taylor was actually looking at Lou Duva, Duva kind of distracted him. Also Steele was known for his good relationship with Don King, he always helped King fighters...Anyone who buys into Steele's bull**** about protecting the fighter should watch the first Barkley-Hearns fight. In my heart, I wish Steele would have given Meldrick those 2 seconds so he could have come out a Champion, atleast SOME compensation for the damaged he experienced in that fight. But, we have to remember that these guys werent playing "Tag". JCC was trying to cause the most damage to him possible without a heavy blunt object. Sure, it was just 2 seconds, but any of the punches he would have landed in those 2 seconds might have been life threatening punches. What if he would have landed a punch that would have completelty caused Taylor to be brain dead at that point? It can only take one punch. One of the saddest stories in Boxing.Last edited by 2501; 12-23-2007, 02:51 PM.Comment

The fight itself was a testament to both fighters skill and heart. One of the best I have ever seen.
I just get angry about the out come.
I can't even lie, I was pulling for Meldrick for this fight. Part of that great 84 Olympic team and all.
But JCC was a wrecking ball.
In the 15 round era, he might have killed Taylor.
But I just think Taylor should have been able to get those last few seconds back, get his hand raised, and walk out the ring as the champ.
Man, I still HATE talking about this fight.
I want to punch something right know....Comment
