this era sucks so fricken bad, i don't even bother watching heavyweight fights anymore, unless it's the steel hammer knocking someone's ass out.

      Which era was worse?

Maybe the early 80s. That was pretty sucky too when you had Leon Spinks being considered a top contender.
I dont think the divison is that bad. there's some good european talent.the problem is there's no big personalities behind the talent and the majority of these fighters arent televised in america. thats the big problem

I have to disagree. there's several heavyweights that would have been competive or even possibly beat those guys. wlad,,chageav,,,virchis,,thompson,,,gomez,,even peter and sultan would have given all those guys trouble in my opinion

Sorry but no way would those slow plodding Heavyweight's beat fast skilled Heavyweight's like Witherspoon, Page, Tubbs, Tucker, all these guys at there peak would make those names you mentioned look foolish trust me on this. Just watch Witherspoon vs Holmes or etc.

There's a lot of exciting, talented heavyweights in Europe: Boytsov, Platov, Dimitrenko, Povetkin, Chagaev, Wladimir, etc. There are few good heavyweights in the US right now, but in the world there's more talented heavyweights than there's ever been, including another dozen from Eastern Europe who are just starting their peo careers.

People need to stop crying about the "state of the heavyweight division", and accept that the best are nowadays from other countries! To me it doesn't matter that Wladimir from a different country than I am - he's still one of my favorite fighters.

There are some good eastern fighters but boytsov and povetkin are overrated imo. the 80's guys had more natural talented than most of the modern heavyweights but they all wasted it.

This is the worse in my lifetime...and I go back to Ali.
W.Klit is the best of a poor lot...in the 80s he would have been Gerry Coony,an ok fighter but not the ruler of the division.
