US - 850K buys
UK - 1.2-1.4Mil buys

it is safe to assume that Hatton has more fans in US than Mayweather in UK. So that does not help Mayweather's numbers

It was reported that Hatton made over $40Mil and numbers keep rising s PPV #'s of sales in UK are still coming in.

This should answer your question about fighter's popularity and $ made for the fight.

The Champion vs. Challenger thing means nothing when it comes to economics..

examples:

Floyd "Challenger" vs. Judah "ChaMpion" = 60/40 split Floyd

Oscar de la hoya "Challenger" vs Hopkins "champion" = 55/45 Split Oscar

like i siad, there are exceptions, but almost ALWAYS the champ is gonna make more then the challenger because they have WAY more leverage in the negotiations.
