Miguel Cotto: "Mayweather Always Makes Excuses"
Collapse
-
"To beat Mayweather, you have to put pressure on him, cut off the ring and be ready to throw a lot of punches, real punches - for all twelve rounds," ~ Miguel Cotto
Ricky Hatton, De la hoya & many of the other 39 opponents (or victims..if you will) thought the exact same thing...and what do you know..the brother is still UNDEFEATED. Many fighters talk that **** and once they finally get in the ring w/ mayweather..it's a different story. Floyd, at this stage of his career, is faster, better defensively, and much more accurate w/ his punches than the '07 version of mosley. Nonetheless, it was shane who was coming forward while initiating the action during the championship rds of ther nov. showdown. Mayweather is not only at the top of the division but the top of the sport as well, therefore it's natural that cotto (and everyone else wants their shot at the p4p king). Unfortunately for them, floyd is an established professional w/ over a decade under his belt who's entering that "oscar realm" where the financial pursuit is just as important as the pursuit of glory. The man will have made approx. $50mil in his last two fights alone, so dont expect him to go backwards. Bob Arum is going to have to annie up that bread in order to make it a reality b/c I dont see floyd fighting ANYBODY (no matter how good or bad they are) for less than 20mil.

Originally posted by Ray Lewis Jr View PostCrillz, Homie I respect you as a poster but I must disagree with on this here. I think Floyd will pull a UD. We will see Floyd as a different fighter(inside and outside). Cotto WILL MAKE FLOYD FIGHT. No doubt about it.
Cotto is the a come foward fighter and likes to apply pressure. Floyd will have a field day with him. Some people say Cotto is a body puncher, but the only problem with that is he is open for the uppercut. Both Judah and Mosley found their home on Cotto's chin by throwing that uppercut. Also Cotto will have to move around because Floyd will not sit there like Mosley and Judah. He will outbox and circle around Cotto all night(just my opinion)
Lets not forget Floyd is a good body puncher himself. (very underrated body puncher) He is going to wear down Cotto. So I just cant see Cotto winning this. I forgot to mention he will not be hitting Floyd that easy because he does have defense.(better that Mosley and Judah.)
I respect your opinion and cannot pull out no flaws in it, you have great reason to believe what you believe, I just think Cotto will land the cleaner shots, the Floyd who fought Ricky didn't kick it up until the later rounds because of the pressure, the first 6 rounds were even and this was against someone who couldn't control his aggression, against Cotto that wont happen, see Cotto has an immense ability to counter punch and not waist punches, when he throws he lands in bunches of 2 and 3 switching from body to face, he does a lot of technical things that will be hard for Floyd to adapt to..
I'll put it to you like this, Cotto is weak to 2 punches which are the straight right hand and the uppercut however he is still very dangerous even when hurt, dude comes back strong, so I see it like this, Floyd can't really do nothing to Cotto besides outsmart him to win, the speed wont help because Cotto can overcome that, the power wont help because he's been hit by stronger men and won, the only thing Floyd can do is outsmart him and Cotto is smart on his own..
Floyd will have to be offensive in this fight, that is out of his comfort zone where he can just fall back and be easy, I think there is where Cotto can take advantage, Cotto can fight in ALL ways, backwards, forwards, defensive, offensive, skillfully and any other way you can think of, dude is the complete package, I give it to Cotto because I have seen Cotto come back twice as hard when put into adversity, with Floyd if you apply THE RIGHT AMOUNT of pressure while holding some distance to still wave off his pop shots and counter you'll beat him, you have to be VERY technical in each combination and Cotto can do it but thats just my opinion, dude is relentless and I think it will boil down to Cotto surprisingly to most getting the best of the exchanges, he will land in bunches while Floyd will score combos but for the most part pop shot, every time he does you'll see Cotto land a counter and attack smarter than Hatton and harder than Castillo..
I respect your opinion though bro and I KNOW I am sounding crazy but I truly feel Cotto will win this fight, Peace.

floyd would probably beat everybody even williams but cotto imo would give floyd the most problems. yea williams is big but all floyd has to do is make him give up his height and it should be a easy fight and williams does't have good defense his offense is his defense

I can't lie I said that to see if someone would do EXACTLY what YOU did, but yes I think a carbon copy of Floyd at Middleweight can do it meaning he can beat him with the hands but the size and pressure wont allow him to dance around and avoid them shots right now, Pavlik has Cotto like pressuring ability, he doesn't charge you but is always in front of your face dropping bombs, he would beat the **** out of Floyd but in a imaginary world where let's say Floyd was a natural Middleweight but fought EXACTLY the way he does now he would school Pavlik, the Floyd of today wont be able to make such a transition just look at how much trouble the Oscar fight presented, he gave up all of his advantages, bottom line is dude has the hand skills to beat Pavlik but nothing else..
