Floyd is one hell of a fighter and compared to todays crop of fighters he is awesome. At 147 in the late 70's he would not be the best welterweight by a long shot!!! Leonard would knock him out, period!!! I'd love to see him fight Tommy Hearns!!! getting hit by a Jr welterweight like Hatton is nowhere near what he'd feel when he took one on the chin from Hearns, just ask Roberto Duran!! Lets face it Mayweather is good but has not yet proven he's the best welterweight today!! With all these weight divisions and sanctioning organizations todays fight fans just don't get it!!! To be concidered the best in your weight division you have to beat the best in that division and today that means fighting Cotto, Williams , Cintron or Margarito which Floyd hasn't done ar even seriously concidered. At best I'd say Floyd is the best Jr welterweight today not the best welterweight since he hasn't beat any of the top welterweights. This whole pound for pound title is confusing to fans but I concider in as a media generated title that stands for nothing more than the best overall fighter not the best fighter period!! How long do you think Floyd would last against Samual Peters in a small ring!!

Well, SRL threw better combinations, but given the defense factor (Leonard got hit a lot more), I'd pick Mayweather to win at 147. Doesn't mean I rate him higher, just stylistically I see Floyd beating him...

After the other night, my father emphatically stated as well, even though I disagree, that Mayweather was better than Leonard. He's like 50 and watched all of those Leonard fights live, so... It really isn't a foregone conclusion. Mayweather would hold his own in any era in his best weight class.

      You forget two things, conveniently..

*Mayweather, unlike Leonartd isn't a natural 147 pounder, he's a jr. Welter Weight himself. If I'm lying, name one welter weight who didn't move up that it as small as Mayweather.

      * Mayweather has a great chin, though getting hit by Hearns is totally different, I agree. Yet and still, he has a great chin + great defense, meaning the possibility of him getting knocked out in any era is low, if everything were set up fair.

Leonard, Mayweather has never faced someone with the combination of strength, speed, stamina and power as leonard. Also the way leonard could put combinations together was amazing

yep..thats the problem when comparing these two. srl has the weight advantage, cos he is a natural welter, but its the only weight where we can compare both of them. still, very interesting seeing the peoples opinion.

Leonard would be Mayweather at welter. I rate Mayweather but he hasn't done anything at 147 to make me think he could beat Leonard.

Mayweather was amazing at 130 and 135, even 140. But he hasn't fought the level of competition at 147 (Baldomir, Mitchell, Judah, Hatton) to objectively judge how he would do against an ATG and a natural at WW, in Leonard. Close, competitive fight, for sure, but Leonard would be too much for him in the end. Would be a great fight to watch as they are both intelligent fighters that constantly make the necessary adjustments needed to win fights.

I dont think the size difference is even as much as an issue anymore. Floyd looks like he has grown into a Welterweight body. He sure looked a lot bigger than Hatton, and he didnt look much smaller than DLH either.

Collazo looked 2 weight classes bigger than Hatton. Floyd weighs in like 148 fight night, he weighed 138 when he was fighting 130, meaning he still fights 140 with ease. Let's see him beat a 162 lb Williams before saying he could hand with natural welters like Leonard and Hearns.
